Welcome To The Best Day Ever!

“Welcome to the best day ever.” Our wedding day truly was the best day ever, and now comes the real fun. We’ve been married 17 days now and life couldn’t be better. This past month has been an explosion of change: We planned a wedding, said our I do’s, partied with 223 of our favorite people, went on the honeymoon of a lifetime to Maui, moved to Los Angeles, started year three of grad school, and began a new job. Not a bad month. And after all of that, what we’re most excited to tell you about is… TODAY.

Today. The every day. Real life. These are the moments that truly define us – the ups and downs, the joys, the laughs, the monotony of 8 AM alarms, commutes to work, assignment due dates, and home cooked meals. As many of you know, Jordan’s new job as Pastor of Discipleship at Thrive LA is the reason for our move to Los Angeles. As we are settling into our new adventure in Echo Park. Having a best friend, and life partner to do today with is the greatest gift. Together, we are beginning to get to know our community, build relationships with our neighbors, and invest in the church family at Thrive. These are the moments that excite us most.

The neighborhood of LA that we are living in is in desperate need of Jesus. Statistically, this area is 25% less churched than the average city in America. It’s an area marked by transition. There is a large contingent of individuals trying to make it big in LA, break into the film and music industry, and find their identity in the world. This brings people from across the world to our city. Couple this with the deep seeded history of the area, the strong Filipino and Hispanic ties, and an ever increasing cultural and economic diversity and you’ll begin to understand where we live. This is why today matters. Because today, God has given us an opportunity to listen to our neighbors, to hear their stories, and lean into the deeper purpose for which God has placed within all of us. It’s a chance to build relational equity in this city, to partner with what God is doing here, and tangibly love this city.

To do this we need your help. We need your prayers; we need your affirmations; we need your money. Yes, that is abrupt, but it’s true. As Thrive LA is a brand-new church plant, we are relying on outside support. As a couple, our salary is entirely made possible by you. We believe God has called us to Thrive LA, to Echo Park, to our neighbors, for a purpose. For today. And we want to partner with you in bringing the love of Jesus to this city.
