OC October Week 1: Prompt: Good Times
Yooo! Haven't been on here for a minute
Wanted to jumpstart my DA account with my annual OC October. I'm doing prompts this year so this should be fun.
This one "Good Times" references my fun old days in the Wild Whisper RP run by the great Koey @koeyohte. This is also a belated birthday present for her! Her baby Astrid is the wolf gal bottom left. Thrya (bottom right) belongs to ShadowPhoenix, another great artist you should follow!
The two 'yotes up top are my children Sonora "Sassy" and Diego "Stink Breath".
All are Wild Whisper alums.
Enjoy and Happy Fall!

So, I haven't played in a while, and have been dying to get a game in. This is the first time in a month that I've been able to do that.
So I played the guy who is probably the best player in my small meta, and the guy who totally copied me and played Menoth (Dammit, it was my faction first!). This guy, Jon, has single handedly put the fear of death back into our local Cryx player.Â
But this Menoth player has recently branched into Circle, with a list that I've seen devastate other competent players on turn 2. So, I KINDA knew I needed to be as aggressive as possible.
Thyra hit the field because of Silence of Death, though I imagined that I wouldn't get to hit Kromac with it. Daughters, because yes (they're my favorite unit honestly). Nicia, Avatar (a birthday gift from my brother), Reckoner, Vessel of Judgement. Vassal, Mechanik, Book, and choir rounded out the list.
I went second, which I didn't want to do against Kromac at all. Fortunately, I got a good shot off the Reckoner that took out one of the Shifting Stones in his first unit at the bottom of round one. My VoJ took out a Stone from the second unit and put the Lord of the Feast at 1 health at the bottom of two, and a Daughter finished him off. Nicia took out the Shrimp-keeper and a shrimp that turn as well. So, I pretty much have all of his support in ruins. I'm ok with this.
Huh... thinking about it, Jon shouldn't have been able to destroy my objective, since he was player 1. Whatever.
Turn three he scores my zone for 2 points with Swamp Gobbers. He uses his useless stones and a shrimp to box in my enlivened Avatar, then the Ghettorix and the Stalker tag-team him to death and then start to hit the Reckoner which was standing close as well. The stalker had also trampled over the remaining daughters and squish-ified them, which helped him clear that zone to score.
So, for those keeping track at home, My avatar did a whopping nothing this game. My own fault, I did NOT put him anywhere he could be useful.
So yes, 1 dead Avatar. Â 1 half-gone Reckoner, but still with the Cortex and Right arm attached, I loaded him up with focus and sent him to work. during Nicia's feat turn. The demolished the Stalker, cranked my damage rolls, and then proceeded to do mini amounts of damage to Ghettorix. Ugh. Ok. Ok. I at least was able to contest the zone with my BE and shot the Gorax with it, put OK damage on him, and then tagged Kromac from the Admonisher for 4 damage. Nicia took out another shrimp and another stone on that side.
On Jon's fourth turn, He's clearly thinking about how he's going to win the game. He decides that he wants to dominate the zone. Ghettorix frenzied, which triggered warpath on Kromac, which gave him the distance he would need to charge. He charges, and has some of the worst damage rolls I've seen in a long time. 1 damage, 3 damage, 3 damage. Getting frustrated, he considers halting his attack, then sees Thyra almost exactly 10 inches away. Decides his transfers won't matter. Puts another 5 damage on the VoJ. Gorax charges in, puts the BE down to 5 health. Wow. And it was at this time that he conceeded because of the sure-fire Thyra charge. Which I rolled out while he was gone. Oh yeah. 2 attacks. Done.
I was pretty happy with that game afterwards, though I was SURE I was going to lose. the whole game was fought on my side of the table, despite having an aggressive, faster-than-average-Menoth force. But, I was the first person in our meta to beat that list, and I honestly didn't counter-pick it super hard. Sure, Thyra is a bear for Hordes, but I wasn't expecting the actually get Silence of Death close enough to Kromac for it to be useful. Losing the Stones early and his awful damage rolls the whole game were what did Jon in, while I had cranked my rolls the whole game, and knew that those stones had to go.
Can't tell if I'm getting better at playing, or if I'm just better at 'Batman-ing' an opponent, studying them long enough to know what to do to win. New goal: start practicing for tournament-style play. Ask them to make 2 lists, I'll make 2 lists, and we'll throw down.
