27th August 2020-Pictures this morning/afternoon and evening Lakeside walk
This morning I saw the Woodpigeon in the first picture in this photoset a sunny start to the day, it stayed for ages on the roof of ours and the neighbour’s garages where I often see them like I had in April when one stayed on the roof opposite for a long time it almost deserved to have its photo taken even though I have taken so many of this bird this year and last. The sun left us for most of the day and on a brief break from work I got my camera and big lens downstairs as the Starlings were descending on our garden en masse. It really is a sight to behold as they nosily pile in to feed in our garden alongside House Sparrows, tens of them the Starlings. Its something I’d never really managed to capture photo wise before and is quite hard to. But I managed the second picture in this photoset of loads on a feeder. I then took the third of lots of Starlings flying off in the sky, in a gathering a little like the famous spectacle of those murmurations that I love seeing in autumn and winter as do many others. I’ve seen them do this a lot the last few weeks as I normally do at this time of year, with so many young just starting to get their adult feathers bolstering their local population there are just so many around and they do fly together. I took the fourth picture in this photoset of flowers on the balcony on lunch.
A lunch time I didn’t have a walk today like I normally do as I went round my Dad’s house last night for a socially distanced visit and was picked up and driven home by my Mum, and I lost my keys somewhere along the way and am still yet to find them. Today no one else was home at lunch time and I didn’t know where any spare keys were so I was obviously stuck in. I knew someone would be home once I finished work in the evening so an evening walk it was. Or was it going to be I thought as lightening flashed late this afternoon and thunder roared and it really rained. But as I was finishing off work it got brighter and brighter and then came the sunshine. It had cleared up, so I was itching to get out to Lakeside for an evening walk on a beautiful evening.
That I did, I took the fifth picture in this photoset of that sun shining through trees near to the entrance of Lakeside something I love photographing I have for a few years I took a couple of this a lot of pictures of the 28 I produced today were similar to one other/another version of it from today’s set. The other one the sun was more visible but as it strengthened and weakened in this moment each time I took a shot the sun looked different and it was like looking at sparklers in the trees. I hated fireworks as a youngster due to loud bangs and I am still sceptical about the amount they are used in the season now due to the suffering they cause to animals wild and domestic the latter I witness first hand with our dogs each year. So sparklers were sort of my thing I loved doing them in the garden especially round my Nan and Grandad’s house their really open garden so this brought back nice memories. I also took the sixth and seventh pictures in this photoset of views of the area out the front and the northern path I chose to walk along at Lakeside, the eighth of the Great Crested Grebe family again on a different lake to where they were born as they were Tuesday great to see again and ninth and tenth of a lovely view over that lake and a tree by the entrance with apples on it.
I felt very happy after a challenging day and unpredictable weather to get out in the sunshine on a glorious evening. It did look so nice. Getting into Lakeside just after six when I’d normally be getting home in the evening in normal circumstances when I work in the office in Winchester, this in a normal year at this time of year making the most of the still fairly long and light evenings I might very well have gone back out to walk here something not always a given in my day normally which I can do every day now so I should try to make the most of this a nice thought.
Autumnal signs may be all around but it felt even more summery as I watched the fairly large group of House Martins circling above again by the visitor centre a real revelation of a group of birds to see regularly this year I believe it was this group I year ticked in May over beach lake here and the ones that flew to beside my room at home that month. I saw a Swallow on the way out back home too, very nice to make the most of these spring summer migratory birds. The world getting back to normal was evident on beach lake with a fitness club swimming in the lake (spaced out of course for social distancing meaning they were everywhere) it was quite comforting to hear them splashing and really enjoying the lake. There are so many uses for the lakes and I feel so lucky that because of where I live and what my hobby is I’ve still been able to enjoy this place all through strict lockdown and continued restrictions in some form but these people maybe not so now its nice that they can safely return. Thanks for baring with me through an eventful day for me really but a wild one.
