A Game of Wits

As Johannes heaved himself up from the floor and placed a hand against the wall to steady himself, Johannes let out a short groan of pain as his free hand moved to his side. He had been sent to this damn outpost to retrieve an artefact and bring it back to The Vatican, the only problem that kept him from completing this simple task was that he wasn't the only one trying to get it.
Edward Mulligan Hyde, the damnable madman had been his bitter nemesis for years at this point and apparently had wanted this relic just as much as The Vatican had. They had fought to the bitter end to get here and then had spent the last hour trying to kill each other, Johannes had narrowly avoided getting shot, stabbed and beaten to death a dozen times over. Though as Johannes held himself up against the wall he glanced from Edward to their rapiers and then to the space between the two of them, spying a Chess Board and up-ended table.
Johannes paused as he considered something, then looked to Edward as he strained, straightened himself up and fought against the lancing pain through the multiple bruises, cuts and gunshot wounds that he'd suffered. "Doctor Hyde, I am going to be honest with you, we have been trying to kill each other for the past few days and I'm sure as you can no doubt tell...We have both failed miserably on that accord." As he spoke he weakly raised his hand, yellow light surrounding it as the table and Chess board set themselves back in place. "So I suggest we settle this in a game of Chess, winner takes the Relic."
