Why do you enjoy writing fanfiction?

You sent this to me so long ago and I shamefully kept it in my inbox intending to one day give a really nice, thoughtful answer. The appropriate timeframe has passed, but I feel like I might as well still play along.
I love thinking about the characters beyond what's on the screen. I like to imagine full lives, a range of emotions and experiences. I also like to think about how they might relate to a regular person like me. I always enjoyed writing, but drifted away from it once I wasn't in college anymore since I wasn't doing any academic writing. This is a nice way to practice and allows me to wander away with my imagination.
Hope you are well. One of these days I might even have some time to get new writing out into the world. I've had teacher!Steve and divorced mom! reader stuck in my mind for far too long not to share them.
