Established actor Simon Baker relied on collaborations with two experienced shooters for his feature directorial debut.
This is a text report of the TIFF17 talk that Simon gave with his Director of Photography (land) and his Cinematographer (water). Really interesting read.
i had tickets to see ‘Galveston’ at TIFF on the 16th but this morning found out that the movie isn’t being shown during the festival anymore. They scrapped it entirely because Mélanie Laurent can’t attend. my tickets were automatically substituted with passes to see ‘A Private War.’ this hasn’t happened to me before so i’m interested to see how it pans out. i am, however, glad that the the substitution actually looks like a decent film. lol
this is dumb but when i was a lil dumb middle schooler i had to go to my stepmom's family reunion in georgia where I met one of her nieces that drew anime art and had a deviantart and everything, which was hella, so i followed her
but when i was on one day I saw she made birthday art for one of her friends, and me being sooo dumb, only talking to her twice maybe,..told her when my birthday was and uuughhh
i hope she forgot all about me and my ignorance
maybe i'll find her again and apologize but its been almost 5 yrs since i dont think it matters
So I ran a prom for homestuck in March. So it's December-January and someone texts me if I have a dress yet and I'm like 'It's fucking January no.'
So this dude's like "so if i make you a dress could I get condense horns?"
And I sit there, since I've already bought fabric for aciona, and go 'yeah sure I already have some fabric that's my fantroll's color to use'.
So I get the specifications, which is not to make them actual height because they'd knock into doorways. This pair is for this dude's girlfriend/moirail/whatever.
I tell him that I'm not mounting them. I don't mount horns usually; it's a pin, it takes like 20min, and my head shape isn't going to look good with yours. I've been here and done this shit.
So this dude comes over and spends the night basically so I can help him with finding a suit size. He doesn't know what he's doing. He already has the material for the dress, and the pattern. We went out and got all that shit. So the pattern is cut out then and there, the measurements are taken, and not only have I gotten the horns almost done, but I threw in a pair of sollux horns he wanted because I'm that type of person.
So I even treat him to dinner during this time because I'm a p nice person, remember this. If you're doing me a favor I don't believe in treating you like shit.
We even like pin these pieces to me and pin them together to make sure they're right.
This is mid/late January.
Let's fast forward to March 9th.
PROM. So this dude's supposed to arrive at 1pm with dress, right? I'm already anxious when it's 5pm and everyone's already shown up late and the prom starts at 7.
It's a little after five when he shows up, and guess what? The dress isn't done. The straps are not fully sewn and the zipper isn't in and wow there's work that needs to be done. He brought his sewing machine and here he is sewing it in the corner with an apology of running out of time. We had everything cut out in January. ...yeaaah.
So I am already a ball of stress and I have a group of girls and gals that some are leaving the building because they're waiting for me to commit murder here. Trust me, it took my willpower to not pick up the scissors that were in grasp.
However, I had more things to worry about including decorating, food ordering, and blah blah blah.
Anyways. The straps are not done by the time prom starts so I have this weird halter-tie thing going on and thank god my bra is black. I don't even have time to gray up and all this jazz. I do not look my best. I am not happy.
Prom = major success.
BTW this dude said he didn't need the horns until November, but guess who delivered BOTH sets at prom, because she doesn't believe in that 'owe you later' bullshit?
This bitch.
So spring break is like two weeks from then and after prom he takes the dress and I go 'okay I need this done for sure in two weeks' 'okay sure'.
Two weeks pass by. It's spring break and I get to the OKC area on Wens, and try and contact this dude. He blows me off. I want to meet up Saturday, but whatever. Saturday I message him and get a three-text rant about how he had to skip a paper and sacrifice his time to make this dress and that I should have had more fittings instead of at my house, and at a meet in Feb., and at prom.
...And that it wasn't done.
So I don't know edmond, but we decide to meet up there and he agrees to the place I specify (note: he goes to college in edmond, I live in Tulsa). I know like four streets and that's it.
Then he has me meet him where he is (it takes me a bit to find, mind you), and yeah. I get the dress later than expected and...
Nothing. Else. Has. Been. Done.
So.
Suffice to say I haven't said a damn word to him since and I haven't seen him since.
I took the dress to a friend of mine (she is lifesaver 101 she's been so helpful and teaching me 10000000 things on the sewing machine with this stuff. I am so grateful.)
2. I exchanged a pair of horns for a godtier hood. I supplied the fabric and everything. The hood...
The hood has needed a lot of TLC.
I pulled it apart.
So. Yeah. Like just... siiigh.
3. I exchanged a set of horns for fins and they broke apart before I even had a chance to paint them.
And then I get a complaint for the sets of horns I gave these two that they're not how they wanted them; but they didn't know what they exactly wanted when I made them so they're just struggling with them???
I admit I had a bad batch of paint but they wanted to repaint them anyways, so I guess that's cool. I'm never using that one brand again because that was total shit.
IDK. It's just that they whined and I was like 'You didn't tell me shit when I asked' 'Yeah well now we know...'
.... >___> Whatever. I still haven't gotten 1/2 of the trade shit I've done with this girl. Slowly but surely she's giving it to me but... y'know? Waiting man.
4. Some chick tried to say I cheated her out of horns when there's photos of her wearing them??????????
Guys you need to realize I'm very reluctant on horns and things right now because of this.
