Okay. Having watched the 9 episodes, I can safely say... The series isn't as bad as others made it out to be.
In fact, I really enjoyed it! It had plenty of good laughs and character moments.
It's not perfect, but it could have been much worse. This batch of episodes is a HUGE improvement over the Halloween special.
Seeing the gang go on silly adventures is always a joy, and I like how they are represented in this series. I could see this being a guiniune prequel... If it weren't for the contridiction The Bad Guys 2 created with Webs joining the team once The Bad Guys had a established rep. It's not the show's fault as this was in production during The Bad Guys 1 release.
Wolf here is great! And he is more of the Wolf I want to see rather than constantly handsome and smooth. The Wolf I know is a clumsy dork under all that charm, and this series examplifies it. 😄
Him and Snake also get some wholesome moments together in this series! The whole team does. ☺️
We also get to learn more about Snake's family... Which goes aganist how Snake started his crime life in the books, for better or worse.
Really feels like The TV writers tried to go off on their own unique thing rather than sticking close to book elements, which I am alright with. The book series is done and any remaining material should be saved for the movies.
Though they did cheekly snuck in some easter eggs to a couple of book chars I was able to notice.
The series may be retconned by future movies, which I anticipate, and whether this series is canon or not shouldn't affect people's enjoyment.
Look at Dragon Ball, it's continuity is all over the place with the movies, GT, Super, and now Daima.
Laatly... The animation... Way better than the Christmas one. 😆 They actually put more time into it. It's not like movie quality, but it's passable. It's a Netflix series to tie into a animated movie. I didn't expect top notch quality in the animation. What mattered more was the story and character protrayal, which I think this show does great at. 👍
I did have a few complaints though...
SPOILERS:
The first movie made the gang getting arrested a big deal. That they were gonna be put behind the slammer and their lives would be over...
In the show... Being arrested isn't treated with the same weight. Like the gang fail to escape a van and they are stuck in jail... And did their sentence? For a short period of time? Like what!? Did they break free? With how it was shown it was like they all just got a slap on the wrist.
Also... TIFFANY FLUFFIT WAS IN THEIR LAIR! I find it hilarious Wolf brought Fluffit to their lair and didn't think she would expose their hideout. It's like some of the goofy logic from the book series carried over.
Though I have to say... I like how this recontextualizes Fluffit's relationship with The Bad Guys. Making it seem like she doesn't feel complete animosity or fear towards them, but is thankful she has material to report through them.
Lastly... Webs is a spider? She is constantly called a spider and she says she was a "spiderling". Is this a error or was she changed into a spider so she could do more stuff with webs? 🤷♂️ She is MS. TARANTULA for crying outloud.
Sometimes, I feel like working on Woluki is meaningless and I always have like "Is this all worthy? Is this have any meaning? People ship Wolf with Diane after all, no one will read or like anything about your ship. People would only love it if Yuki and her romance with Wolf was canon". I feel like all my effort is for nothing and doing anything to make Yuki good written is also worthless because she is OC. I feel like I will never be on the same level as people who write Wolfington fanfics and get tons of kudos. I feel like my art skills don't matter when people make Mona Lisa like fanarts of Wolf and Diane. I feel like my hardwork goes for nothing.
Lately I've been imaging a dramatic kiss scene between Commissioner Misty Luggins and Tiffany Fluffit and here it is. And yes, I used their sequel designs.
