Understanding Video technology
First I have to set up the tripod at the front of the room in front of the board to the point of it being in the middle of the room I have unclip the metal ring and string to open the tripod legs, then I have to extend the legs by unclipping the tripod clips to however tall or short I would need to shoot my Interview or footage then clip the tripod legs back down I then have to make sure the little bubble is in middle to make sure its level with the floor and room if it is not you will get a wonky shot.
Three point lighting
I also then start on the three point lighting I wanted it to be exact I have to make my lighting into a triangle shape there is the flow light back light and fill light the back light goes to the back of the room to hide any shadows and to create a solute the fill light goes to the left side of the room to fill any space and the flow light on the right to create a focus on the talent.
The issue with using only the back light and flow light would be if there is any unwanted light space you would have a okay looking shoot but if you want good high standard lighting you need the fill light, flow light, and back like they all have their purposes and once you get the perfect lighting by placing the lights in the right place you will get the perfect affect.
Tripod
I then must take the base plate off to screw to the bottom of the canon metal hole then twist it to hold it in place after that I have to push a button that allows the base plate to fit into place so it is steady.
After I set up my tripod I have to set up the settings on the camera I flick the switch at the front to turn on the camera then I set the Frame size it has to be 25 frames per second the ISO has to be 400 or under that is the sensitivity of the camera lens inside the camera and make the depth 1.0 if this is not done I then have to make sure it is white balance depending on the rooms lighting.
White balance
I press up arrow and it gives you White balance, white Florescent, Direct Sunlight, Cloud, Shady, sunlight Incandescent, Day light, Auto these are the colors used whilst filming I use white balance sometimes others depending on the location and lighting at the time.
AV F stop and Depth of field
AV F stop button is to set the aperture by setting aperture you get your depth of field which is the distance between what you are filming and where your camera is set.
To make sure I don’t have to much depth of field I must make sure there is not to much distance between my scene or talent aswell as making sure there is enough room and balance between the rule of thirds and enough looking space if this went wrong it would have to be shot again so I would have to re shot due to it being unprofessional.
Colour
The colour temperature is the colors which are in the room when you are
Filming in your location the colors you get are blue sky, cool white seesmart, cloudy sky, day white seesmart Incandescent etc they all range from orange yellow white red blue colors in the chart here is a example I have done.
If I do not set up the right colour temperature the camera could have noise and it could make the shot dark or very light so your shot would be a shot you would have to re film due to the implications of too much light and color.
7000k
4000k
3500kk
3000k
Level of sound
level of sound I must always get whilst doing sound is 1 or -1 but it can go to -6 no higher due to the noise you get in sound such as cars crackling etc.
If you get the right sound it will go perfectly with the scenes I always have to make sure that there is no wind creaks any unwanted noise but sometimes if its an out door area you cant help birds or traffic so you have to wait for the noise to stop or improvise.
Lens
When you start getting ready to film I also must set the focus the lens at the front and the back lens for zoom doing this makes it a good shot and it can look almost perfect sometimes even perfect.
Rule of thirds
All shots have to be in the Rule of third like this the fore head of the talent must be on the top line including their eyes just above it and the mouth etc at the middle and other features at the bottom of the line.
Exposure
The exposure is the amount of light and shadow being let in within the space you are filming in at your location.
If you have to much exposure it makes the shot look unpleasant to the views and editors so I must makes sure that the zoom and focus is as perfect as you can get it then hopefully when it comes to editing it makes it easier as then you do not need to colour grade.
After I set up my settings I want my shots a certain way so I must make sure the exposure is only a little exposed and only a certain amount of light is being used to expose the light coming into the camera lens.
ISO is the sensitivity of the lens inside the camera letting in the light so I must always make sure there is not too much sensitivity due to the issues that could happen such as too much light blurring and the picture going wrong. If the ISO goes right usually it has the right light and sensitivity then you can get a brilliant shots.
We have white balance for white rooms and light bulbs as they can make the footage the wrong balance of colors if we didn’t have white balance we would have orange red, even yellow colors that would make the footage have noise and the wrong balance of color for the sensitivity.
