@timaeuse asked : “what? it’s totally platonic.” dirk isnt even good
pesterchum's voice call function is flawed at the best of times. when combined with the island's often touchy internet connection, the call is practically holding on for dear life. “ oh, hold on, dirk--grandma ? the internet is on the fritz ! ” he could fix it himself, if he really put himself to it, but he'd hate to leave dirk for that long ( and not just because he knows dirk could fix it in a matter of seconds, just as his nan is about to do ).
he clears his throat. “ i'm back, lad. what were we saying ? something something platonic. ” he wants to make a wink-wink nudge-nudge kind of joke, but he can never get the tone quite right on those, especially when he’s talking to dirk. and also, it feels kind of cruel, maybe ? or something like that. but dirk’s started it, and if jake doesn’t respond in kind, well, that might be noticeably weird, and nothing would be good from dirk noticing jake being weird. it isn’t until the silence is obvious that he finally does speak. “ oh, right. you know, dirk, you say an awful lot of things that could be read as non-platonic. that might get you into trouble one of these days. ”
