I have a theory about why Carol Sturka was the only one of the english-speakers to be unhappy with the Hivemind takeover at the start of Pluribus: Carol is the only one who SAW the change happen.
I've seen dozens of different theories about this since the series began. Some I think make sense, some I disagree with very strongly. But I think this is the heart of the matter and I haven't seen anybody else mention it yet.
The mass conversion of humanity happened around 9:00pm local time in New Mexico. For the people who were in Africa and Asia it would have been the middle of the night, or approaching dawn (Depending on their individual locality). They were probably all asleep when the change happened, so they didn't see their loved ones "shut down" or go through the spasming process.
They went to bed the night before in the normal world, and they woke up the next morning in this New World with their loved ones telling them that everything is wonderful and better now. They didn't have the moments of panic and fear that Carol had when she saw Helen suddenly fall over, or the dawning horror when she realized everybody around her was also affected. None of them screamed at their loved ones hoping for a response, only to get complete silence and no acknowledgement at all until they woke up as somebody new after going through this horrible process.
Even Peru, where Kusimayu is from, is an hour or two hours ahead of New Mexico, so she also may have been asleep at 10/11pm.
With none of them SEEING this happen, they didn't have the visceral reaction that Carol had. Plus, if they and their families were all asleep, that explains how none of them were injured or killed during the transition like Helen was. None of them were standing up or driving a car or lifting something above their head or engaged in any sort of hazardous activity; they were lying prone on a bed and thus incapable of falling down. So that's why they have their families with them, and again why they're not knee-jerk angry. All because it happened at a diferent time for them.
