#TimeIsThePrice Week isn’t just about the rhymes, limited merch (hit the bio or BlackLiq.com for that) videos, or even just these stories. It’s about an experience & the people who made it possible. That said, I gotta tell you about @mercizdope & @foliesthemesong I don’t care how dope you are, release dates are special. They’re also stressful. We had plans man, & damnit we needed videos. I hate shooting #rap videos. I perform for crowds & on stages, not in front of cameras in random places. @bcmusic1st also knows how much I hate this process. I don’t like shooting videos…. We first were trying to link with @mopes_sfr but things didn’t work out with our schedules and the weather. BC could tell I was getting anxious & was like “I know who we need to link with to make this happen….” The schedule was laid out, they picked the spot, the song: ENDTRO. I showed up dolo, with coffee & Perrier, hopes battling expectations. This had to work. I hate shooting videos. I couldn’t believe it. These guys understood me. They were about work, confident in the choices. No reshoots over & over again. No indecisive shots, no breaks. The last thing I said when we finished the shoot was “I’m gonna let BC know how well this went, I actually had fun.” I like shooting videos….? I was in Providence, RI when I got the first cut, wandering around a busy mall mostly full of seemingly depressed, similarly dressed teens. The edit was crazy! I hit BC, I hit @distantdee I hit up my whole circle. “We got one.” And so we shot 3 more, & one for @armagideontimerva Believe it or not I actually looked forward to it. Matter fact I can’t wait to get back to work! They say if you keep working & believing the right people will show up at the right time. I couldn’t agree more. #TimeIsThePrice Week continues & while we’ve been talkin music & merch (hit the bio for that) we gotta switch it up. Let’s talk artwork! This incredible album cover was painted by @patjensen & it still gives me the chills. Here’s the story: The artwork for my album #ANTi which was shot in the @strangematterrva bathroom by @bcmusic1st with some help from my brother from another mother @actorrogertyler had raised the bar. Last minute idea or not, that shit blew people away. That standard had to be met & man, my mind was blank! Honestly it felt like none of us had an exact idea of what this thing was going to look like, especially since we had all been so focused on how it sounded. Prolyphic was coming full circle & becoming @mopes_sfr I was fulfilling a lifelong dream, @sagefrancissfr @stormdavis & BC were tolerating my endless emails! It was hectic. In the midst of all this my mom was coming back from being in a SNF & I had to do a deep clean of my house. Another of brothers from another, @dieterandthewolf really came through for me during this time, I’m lucky to have people like him in my life. Dealing with the house & preparations was so overwhelming. In the midst of this I found over 1000 pictures & around 50 of rolls of film. Fast forward to when I got them developed & I found myself looking at my life, chapters I had forgotten. It seemed like another person. Ironically In the midst of discussing the album it seemed the common theme was my upbringing. I was telling my life story, one rhyme at time. Now my life story was staring back at me. It turns out when you take a bunch of pictures & scan them, you get a collage. From that collage you begin to see yourself, in fragments, yet as one. Sage said Pat was down to put in work & so we picked the “right” photos. I wasnt sure but hey, “Sage advice” right? Pat sent a mock up & said he was “going to paint it” once we decided it was solid. I was like right. Paint. Sure. I couldn’t believe it when we got it. I sent it to my dad over JPay & even he said “stop holding out & send me those pictures!” Thanks Pat. #TimeIsThePrice Week continues! We’ve got CDs (hit my bio) which feature an unreleased track @mopes_sfr and I left off the album called “The Stairs.” There was a bit of a debate behind this one, it’s a really good record! It was the wisdom and ear of one @sagefrancissfr that really made question the arrangement of songs and if it truly belonged on the album though. Now anyone who knows me will tell you, I will fight you over the track order of one my projects. This was different though. For me @strangefamousrecords means creating on a whole new level and giving myself to an audience who has very high standards. This was bigger than me. My business partner @bcmusic1st played the unbiased ear and when he said it flowed better, I knew it was time to let go. BC doesn’t miss (he also did the entire CD layout) But in all truth, they were right…the song is still dope though!! It has bars man…bars! But seriously, this may sound trivial to some but for me this was a moment that helped me grow so much as an artist. It taught me to focus on maximizing what is presented. Convincing yourself there’s a missing piece will have you missing peace. Also, I think Mopes knew all along I would go along with it…he’s such a Jedi. He’s a master of mind tricks that have wisdom as the punchline. And like me, he does not argue.
