What would you say is Bowie's most underrated song(s) and album from the 70s? (I hope I haven't asked you this already)

Tough one. I think Diamond Dogs is probably his most underrated, imo, as a full cohesive album. It’s not my favourite, but I enjoy it a lot, and while it is loved I find praise for it is usually mitigated by plenty of criticism. (My other two options were Young Americans and Lodger, but tbh I agree with public perception of those.)

As for individual songs… Eight Line Poem, Big Brother/Chant of the Ever-Circling Skeleton Family, Win, DJ, the entire B-side of “Heroes”

honestly it’s hard for me to judge what’s underrated tho lol b/c hardcore bowie fans and casual listeners often have opposite opinions. I feel like most of these need more love tho.

If Bowie had a tumblr what sort of username do you think he would have and what kind of of content would he post?

I’m gonna say probably some remixed reference to himself, if things like the tao jones index and sailor/isolar are any indication.

And the content he’d post would be really varied, from art, to music, to random obscure trivia, to fashion, to movies/tv, to news articles, to occasional pictures of himself. The only stuff he wouldn’t post would be fandom shit, instagram-filtered hipster shit, and political/social justice shit.

Also I feel like he’d reblog memes tbh. like 110% percent chance he would’ve reblogged that heathen/pepe photset that went around a while ago.

And he’d probably be able to achieve a tolerable balance between silent blogging and adding comments to things. He’s been on the internet longer than most of us after all.

Oh also I’m answering as though he has a secret blog, rather than a RealDavidBowie style celeb blog. Though tbh it prob wouldn’t make much of a difference.

What are Bowie's worst lyrics in your opinion?

Oh man he has some doozies. But tbh most of his shitty lyrics kinda work in context of his music - even his 60s stuff was meant to be silly and the pretentious awkward wordiness of it suits. Tin Machine has some awful ones, but it’s Tin Machine, it goes with the territory. Even Crack City like, the entire point is ott grotesqueness so whatever.

Anyway I have 2 picks that I can’t choose between.

Either the intro to Glass Spider, which is just poorly conceived in every way and it’s like 2 damn minutes long. How did this happen?

Or the entirety of Black Tie White Noise (the song) which, like, sorry but Bowie’s philosophy of individualism really shines here, and it’s awful. You couldn’t reach this level if you set out to purposefully parody A Rich White Dude’s Thoughts on Social Unrest.

Honestly Stage is def way better sung but ngl I actually find it a little too polished to be very interesting to me, so I prefer David Live lol. I’d never say it’s like, better, but it’s more of an experience imo.

It just depends what you want I guess. I almost never prefer live music to studio recordings, so when I listen to live albums I value other things they can bring to the table - like banter, mistakes, weird improvised moments, preserved pieces of history, strange arrangement/performance choices, etc.

What is your favourite live album from Bowie?

Right now I’m gonna say Santa Monica ‘72. I don’t listen to his live albums very often though so that’s not far from a stab in the dark from memory lol.

Hey, what's your opinion on Buddha of Suburbia and what's your favourite song(s) from the album?

It’s my sole Bowie album I haven’t listened to, so n/a.

However I was saving it for when we got news of another Bowie album, and this upcoming musical kinda counts, so maybe I should listen to it after work tonight. HMMMM.

If I do I’ll let you know what I think.
