I'm rewatching Freak Show currently and remember during that first Life on Mars performance where Jessica was in the audience in that sad clown outfit? Did we ever find out what that was really about? Any thoughts??

You know, it amazes me how many people ask about that, because everyone thinks it was supposed to be a major plot point that in actuality served no purpose. I’ve seen people go so far as to suggest that Elsa had a twin who would show up later in the season. It’s bizarre. All it was meant to be was just a little cinematic uniqueness to spice up the episode.

It was just meant to portray Elsa as the stereotypical “fool”. She wasn’t in the audience. I mean technically she was in the big tent, but it wasn’t meant to be simultaneously during Elsa’s performance. It was sort of like a flashback to maybe earlier that day or last week or even two years ago, who knows. But Elsa definitely wasn’t watching herself perform. You’ll notice next to clown Elsa is a movie projector. She’s dressed as a sad fool watching a film. Guess which one? Her snuff film.

hey! so i was just thinking about freak show and all and it got me thinking. in the 4x08 blood bath promo we see frances conroy pull a gun to gabourey sidibes head, but if i remember correctly that never even happened in the show. do you think gloria was originally supposed to live longer or something? idk im just still mad they killed her off so early, do you have any thoughts on it? avenge gloria mott

Freak Show had a lot of scenes that were featured in the promos that ended up on the cutting room floor at the last second. I just think that Gloria was considering killing Regina and then at the last minute chickened out and decided to confront Dandy in that final scene (you’ll notice that in that promo scene Gloria is wearing the same outfit that she wore when Dandy killed her, so it had to have taken place immediately before she died). But yeah, that was it. Clearly it was a scene that didn’t really matter to the storyline if they were able to cut it out. As to whether or not it would’ve changed things, I don’t think so. It’s not like they filmed two different scenarios where either Gloria kills Regina and makes it for a few more episodes or Dandy kills her right now; it had to have been their plan all along.

i know nothings been announced yet, but i truly believe that franny will be one of the special guests checking into the hotel and thats why nothings been said of her yet. i think ryan isnt going to let us know until the actual episode airs about who these past characters are that will be checking into the hotel. i would like to see somehow myrtle snow in some sort of flash back since gaga and naomi campbell will be all about fashion and we all know miss myrtle snow is our fav fashionista

That’s totally possible. Pepper and Mary Eunice were announced ahead of time, but Arden was such a shock (I mean we all kinda suspected it, but we never imagined they’d go along with it, certainly not all the way in episode 12). I want something like that for sure, something we don’t expect until we’re actually watching it.
