It had been two weeks since Reynie had last seen the winter spirit. The first week had passed by in a blur; her mind hadn’t accepted the fact that she actually had someone to talk to, so she’d thrown herself into a work haze, doing everything on autopilot. When her brain finally caught up, however, the second week was spent alternating between joy and nervousness. Joy, because oh wow, I have a friend! I should totally stick the brightest thing I can find on top of a tree right now! But then she would get nervous, because what if he’s busy with something? I don’t want to bother him or anything.
The cycle continued like this for a couple of days until she noticed that all the flowers in her garden had fully bloomed and she figured that Jacki would definitely want to see them. Which led her to grab her scarf, throw on her jacket, and trek into the forest towards the tallest oak tree.
Reynie absently picked her way through the familiar growth that blocked her path as she fiddled with the scarf in her hands. Would this be bright enough for him to see? When she’d marched confidently from her cave, she’d been positive that the pale yellow would stand out against the blue of the sky, but now, she wasn’t so sure. As Reynie mulled over it, a sudden chill came by and brought her out of her thoughts, causing her to shiver and fluff her feathers in reflex.
God, why was it so chilly here? It shouldn’t be this cold yet, not for a few more weeks at least. She muttered to herself until she realized with a jolt that the only logical explanation for the sudden cold was that a certain winter spirit had decided to visit. A grin spread on her face as Reynie quickened her pace. She almost broke into a run until without warning, she stumbled onto a clearing that was covered in frost. Definitely Jacki.
She was about to cheerfully wave and call out to him until she stopped dead in her tracks and adopted a horrified expression. She had expected to see the white-haired boy, but not like this.
"Oh my god! Jacki, are you okay?!" Reynie’s mind kicked back into gear and she sprinted towards him, grateful for how her talons made it easier for her to cross the icy ground.
"E-e-excuse me Sir, I think you dropped something." Jacki mumbled quietly from behind Nicholas
"I did?" The Russian patted down his person before looking to ground around his feet, he spotted what it was that fell and crouched to pick it up. "Thank you for telling me."
