Happy Popular Consultation Day, Timor Leste! On this date in 1999, Timor Leste held a popular referendum run by the UN, with the population deciding on whether or not to become a province of Indonesia (remember how after the Portuguese were ousted in 1979, Indonesia annexed Timor and fighting broke out between the Timorese and the Indonesians for 20 years....), with 78.5% of the population voting NO on becoming an autonomous region within Indonesia.

You know what warms my heart even more than seeing the happiness of our emigrants in France?
Seeing EAST-TIMOR, all the way on the other side of the world, being happy for us!
