The demons beneath the road = trolling
The TFP references to ‘the demons beneath the road’ were biting at me. I looked it up, it’s not literary although it sounds like it. It is, however, a fairy tale (and fairy tales are referenced within TFP and possibly one of the signs TFP is all in John’s head/not real).
Q. What is a demon beneath the road?
A. A troll (evil fairy tale creature, sits below bridges)
Q. What is trolling?
A. Fishing by trailing a line behind a boat, the art of deliberately, cleverly and secretly upsetting people using arguments and fake stories, with the art of provoking an emotional response.
Q. What happens next?
A. We’re on a bloody fishing boat.
We’re being trolled. They’re telling us.
