FROM A TOY: Kan Pokkuri || Noritaka Tatehana, “Lady bloom” 2013 ___ Kan Pokkuri is a Japanese child game in which tin cans are used as stilts, with strings through them and used as handles. Of course we can also see an echo of 16th Century “chopines”. Chopine is a type of women’s platform shoe originally used as a patten, clog, or overshoe to protect the shoes and dress from mud and street soil. Chopines were popularly worn in Venice by both courtesans and patrician women. Besides their practical uses, the height of the chopine became a symbolic reference to the cultural and social standing of the wearer; the higher the chopine, the higher the status of the wearer. High chopines allowed a woman to tower over others. During the Renaissance, chopines became an article of women’s fashion and were made increasingly taller. We can also remember Giuseppe Zanotti’s heel less shoes widely inspired to chopines. Also Jeffrey Campbell gave us his version of chopines...even if I think that her was just a copy of the Zanotti ones 🤷♀️ #kanpokkuri #tincans #platform #chopines #giuseppezanotti #jeffreycampbell #noritakatatehana #ladybloom #fashioninspiration #fashionhistory #inspiration #insidethemood https://www.instagram.com/p/BpHeRmkiimQ/?utm_source=ig_tumblr_share&igshid=1a1a40bvydi8b

The Tin CANdle-holders Part III
If you’ve been following this blog, you know what’s about to happen in Part III. For those of you just tuning in, I’m taking used coffee tins and turning them into designed candle holders for Valentines Day. I’ve been working with the largest can.....I made a heart stencil, attached it to the can, and hammered holes in each dot to make the heart design. Here’s the stencil...
And here’s the can with the Ivory paint I selected...
And the finished product looks like this....
Lovely!! All it needs is a candle inside and you now have a beautiful piece of Valentine décor OR table decoration for a romantic Valentines dinner. Super easy to make! Low cost....the tin coffee can was one that my husband threw out and the spray paint came from my own assortment of cans. If you were to buy the spray paint, probably $4 to $5. And there you have it...furniture is not the only thing you can refurbish! So many old things (like coffee tins) can be repurposed or made new again with a little creativity! My plan is to do several of these cans. And grouped together with the candles lit, they’ll make a beautiful sight!
Want to see this one lit up....keep reading....
HIDDEN FINAL STEP!!!
Ok, so as lovely as the ivory coffee tin turned out, I felt like it needed a little more flare. When the can is illuminated with the candle, it’s beautiful!! BUT, during the day without the candle, the ivory color is a little bland and blended in to my walls. So I changed the color scheme to this...
I think adding some color made it ‘pop’ much more as a decoration! I simply sprayed some ivory paint on the can and then some red paint...then swirled them together and let it dry. That gave it this funky tie-dye look and even added some texture! Whether you like the ivory one best or the tie-dyed one, this craft allows you to be as creative as you want!! Now....
Here’s a picture of the tie-dye can illuminated....
Gorgeous!!
And here’s a picture of it as a decoration on my buffet, which was the whole point of this craft! LOL!
I should be back in the next week or so with another project. Until next time, friends!
