HALF PAST INTERVIEW: Lane Moore
Valentine’s Day, Galentine’s Day, Singles’ Awareness Day – however you celebrate February 14, Lane Moore’s got the show for you. Tinder Live, a topical, interactive comedy affair conceived by the renaissance woman, offers gut-busting observations on, anecdotes involving, and tips for the ubiquitous dating app that people of all relationship statuses can enjoy. We chatted with Moore ahead of what’s sure to be a hilarious, no-holds-barred ride at our Lincoln Theatre show this Tuesday.
What inspired the concept of Tinder Live?
All my friends were on Tinder and I finally caved and was like, “OK, let’s see what this is.” Literally as soon as I logged on I was like, “Yep, this is a live comedy show right here and I need to make it happen.”
Do you foresee the show ever expanding to include other dating apps/websites such as Bumble or OkCupid?
It absolutely could work with any dating app, but right now, Tinder’s perfect for it.
Has the show always had interactive components? How has this participation enhanced the show thus far?
I always wanted it to be a shared experience, so from the jump, the audience voted whether I swipe left or right, it’s all in their hands. It’s incredible because the audience is so on board and such a huge part of the show and everyone is keenly aware we’re all experiencing this totally wonderful thrill ride together. No show is the same, so if you’re at Tinder Live one night, that means you experienced something that people who weren’t at that show can never say they experienced. Those kinds of moments are the best.
How should an attendee prepare for Tinder Live?
Prepare to laugh more than you’ve ever laughed in all of life. I’ve been told there’s a very good chance that will occur.
How did it feel to be nominated for the 2016 White House LGBT Champions of Change award?
It was so wonderful! I also won the GLAAD Award in 2016 for my work at Cosmopolitan and it was amazing to be acknowledged for doing something I just really wanted to do because I want the world to be better and for it to feel safer and happier for everyone.
Your diversified career includes writing, comedy, and music, which some might consider vastly different spheres. Do you prefer one to the others, or do you like them all equally?
I know calling yourself an “artist” has a weird stigma to it for some reason but honestly, that’s what I am. I’m never not creating, I’m making things from the time I wake up to the time I go to bed, even my dreams are super active, and all the different things I do are all connected in my mind.
Do you have any show rituals or hacks when performing in front of crowds?
I usually go somewhere quiet and dance like crazy for 1-2 minutes, depending how much time I have. It’s very silly and great.
You have a great Tumblr called @malefeministsoftinder. How did this stroke of genius come about?
Since I spend so much time on Tinder, I noticed so many guys saying they were feminists as part of the like 3 things they’d put on their profiles and I thought that was so weird. Like, why do you have to mention you believe in equal rights and you like pizza and that’s all there is to know about you? Now people from all over the world send me those profiles and I love them all so much.

During our first week on lockdown (sigh), were fortunate to spend some time with Lane Moore, who is the definition of a multi-hyphenate talent. Writer of the national bestselling book How To Be Alone, frontperson of It Was Romance and brilliant host of Tinder Live which is exactly as surreal and hilarious as it sounds. She is currently hosting a talk show version of How to Be Alone every night at 8pm EST on Twitch to keep us all company—so we highly recommend you tune in as we couldn’t stop laughing throughout our whole interview.
One of the crazier things you’ll ever see live on stage is the dating odyssey that Lane Moore embarks on as she displays a live feed from her Tinder on her phone and narrates her twists and turns through any and all swipes, matches, threads, etc. and letting the audience even somewhat sway what happens. Moore is so open and warm and so damn fun that the chaos is pretty damn fun.
Moore has been touring with this one of a kind, insanely bold social experiment/comedy show as it’s truly unforgettable
The latest edition of Tinder Live with Lane Moore is set for Sat. May 16th at 9PM at The Bootleg Theater. Tickets are $25 and you best get them now as we won’t be surprised at all if they sell out.
"i love the cartoon “Doug” and also feminism and also my long hair.”
“i refuse to flood women with patriarchal nonsense. oh, and hold on a convo for fuck sake.”
obnoxious radical feminist male AND manic pixie dream boy. the total package, i know.
The host of this event, Lane Moore (a queer comedian) brought this event to my attention, and it looks cool! Apparently has queer content and a queer audience. It’s every month, and this month’s is Wednesday, October 12th.
