atton and tiniat on the way to malachor, unfinished but i had to share

Tiniat: how're we doing? [like she always does]
Atton: haven't crashed yet [like he always does].
[pause]
[atton turns the seat around, stands. He's not sure where to take this conversation, how to begin it.] "look, Tiniat..."
Tiniat stands and watches him struggle for a bit. She doesn't know what he's thinking. She doesn't want to assume.
"We've come a long way from Peragus," she prompts.
Atton snorts ruefully. "You could say that again." He thinks about making a joke- we could recreate our introduction, just tie me up and take off your clothes- but he doesn't. He can't really.
And there are some things that he can't say. Not with her eyes on him. Not with everything that she is, and that he is, now that he's met her.
But some things can't be left unsaid, either. He can't bear the idea that she might not know.
He needs her to know.
"Look, we've been through a lot," Atton begins.
He pauses.
"We have," Tiniat agrees. "I just wanted to say, well."
And Tiniat has always had a golden tongue. She's always ready with a diatribe or a snide remark or the perfect compliment. And she doesn't know what to say, either.
"Thank you," Atton blurts out. "For not tossing me off somewhere, writing me off as a smart-ass pilot too much work to deal with, or as a traitor, or as an assassin, or-" The list goes on. Love-stricken idiot. Jealous snake. Fool.
me: *develops intricate and fun AU idea where the Exile remains part of the RevanMalakExile trio and becomes the Sith Lord big bad of K1 and there's all this fun political bullshit*
me: *considers writing it so I can establish how Atton and Tiniat would function together as a sith couple*
