is there anything outside of canon that you incorporated in your portrayal of the outsider that ended up becoming a constant source of inspiration?
I have been roleplaying upward of nine years now and what I have noticed is that I have sets of my muses in two different extremities; calmer ‘outsiders’ that have a certain detachment from others and belligerent narcissists that are often poison to themselves and others. I somewhat have ‘catchall’ ways to get into each mindset with a certain small list of books, movies, and music. Every now and then whichever source of media I use at the time will bleed into the muse I’m currently writing. Long-term muses get composition notebooks filled with things that remind me of them, quotes, musings, etc. The Outsider just got his recently.
But particular to The Outsider, I will admit that a lot of my own personal interests have made their way into his portrayal. I’ve a severe interest in humanity and how we’re fine tuned to lead ourselves into chaos and destruction, either on a personal or societal level. The difference between The Outsider and myself when it comes to these views is that he’s bored of the repetition behind the chaos and I am not, but it is a frequent topic while I write him. I also like to imagine what he was like in his human years and how that would affect his judgement on who he places his curiosities in. Rat Boy is a HUGE interest point for me that I consistently think about. I also build off of a lot on what Harvey Smith talks about when asked about The Outsider ( which I will actually be writing a lot about in the future ).
In his notebook so far is a lot of information on cults, the Salem Witch Trials, H.P. Lovecraft and Edgar Allan Poe, callbacks to certain books and prose, excerpts from past and current muses that share similar views or characteristics, things I can imagine The Outsider thinking about and general disastrous things humanity has done.
