Daquavis thought he was doing pretty good this run, until a massive hand burst through the small tunnel he’d dug and crowded him against the back wall of his hidey-hole, fingers thicker than his body was wide grasping and snaring around his shoulders.
Daquavis yelped, dropping his pickaxe in panic as he tried to climb out of the closing hand, using the large fingers like steps, but they curled around his waist and chest before he could leap away, trapping all but his arms and head between warm, calloused skin.
The grip wasn't harsh and crushing like his knee-jerk reaction told him it would be. Instead, the hand was gentle around his body, fingers brushing so lightly against his sides that when he wriggled and pushed at them, they moved away at the near-insignificant pressure. The pinkie finger gently cradled his legs and kept him from falling, while the rest of the fingers curled loosely around his hips and chest, carefully cupping around his body in the softest grip possible.
Daquavis groaned when the hand began moving backwards out of his hiding spot. He had to duck down as he was pulled through the tunnel, rough-cut stone brushing over his dual-toned horns and pink-and-black hair as he was abducted from his bolthole. He had furnaces smelting in there. He was so close to a full set of iron—but he guessed that it didn’t really matter now.
He’d been caught by his biggest rival, Dream.
Light blinded him when the hand emerged from the tunnel, and he had to blink away the brightness as his eyes adjusted. His stomach lurched unhappily when he began to rise, his own grip tightening against the pliant skin under his hands as a small headrush swirled through his skull.
“Got you!” The voice, deeper pitched than his own and irritably triumphant, crowed victoriously. Daquavis unclenched one hand to bring it up and shield his eyes from the bright sky as he looked up at the colossal blond gently clutching him in one ridiculously-huge fist. Daq held back a grumble. Not even his friends were as tall as Dream was. It was totally unfair.
Dream’s bright white ceramic mask glinted mockingly down at Daquavis in the afternoon sun, the larger man's cocky grin just barely visible under the bottom edge. Daquavis scowled at it, pointedly pulling his legs up to prop his sneakers against the side of Dream’s pinkie finger and planting his hands on the side of the palm behind him. With a small jump, he was high enough to sit on the edge of Dream’s palm. He wobbled briefly before he managed to regain his balance, black tail snaking to the side to wrap around the base of Dream's pointer finger while his pink tail dropped down to brace against the back of the bigger man’s hand.
“C’mon, Dream, I was so close to full iron!” Daquavis whined, pointed ears flicking in irritation as he crossed his arms. The sudden movement made him wobble again, and it was only the appearance of Dream's other hand at his back that kept him from plummeting from his perch. One broad thumb leaned over to brush at Daquavis’ black right shoulder, and he swatted at it with a scowl.
“You're so—so weird!” He grumbled, slapping at the ridged finger pad with clawed hands. His fingers looked tiny into comparison to Dream’s thumb, and the notion only made Daq’s pout deepen.
“Aw, c'mon Daq, you're the one who challenged me,” Dream snickered, one thick finger tipping down to nudge at the pink horn poking through Daquavis’ pink hair. The bi-colored man ducked away, nose scrunching indignantly. “And now you owe me one-hundred diamond blocks.”
“Shut up, shut up dude, c’mon,” Daquavis whined, finally giving up the fight and slumping disparagingly against the palm cradling his back. “You know it’s gonna take me forever to mine all of those, right? I’m going to be digging for weeks now.”
Dream only chuckled in response and gently gave the smaller man’s pink shoulder a consoling pat with one massive fingertip. “I’m not in any rush. You can take your time,” he reassured, and Daquavis shot him a flat, reproachful look. “Oh, that’s reassuring. Now I’ll have to keep track of them.”
He threw his head back against the plush palm with a groan and squinted past Dream’s grinning mask up at the sky. “Do you have any milk? I’ve had enough of being fricken’ tiny.”
The large blonde let a small wheeze escape from his lips, but complied to Daquavis’ request regardless. He gently braced his thumb against the smaller man’s knees to keep him from falling and pulled his free hand away to dip it into his inventory. His fingers briefly fizzled before a bucket materialized in his grasp.
“Thanks,” Daquavis mumbled, and gratefully drank the offered milk. At least they didn’t have to go out to find a cow. The thought was of little reassurance, but Daq would take what he could get.

Later, when Daquavis was munching through his pork chop dinner at Dream, Sapnap, and George’s house (the trio had offered to let him stay over for the duration of the challenge) Sapnap trotted through the front door, armor dented and clothes slightly singed. His coal-black eyes alit on Daquavis sitting at the kitchen table, and a sharp smirk crawled across his face.
“You're lucky he didn't eat you,” the fireborn idly remarked, patting Daquavis’ black shoulder as he walked past. Daquavis nearly choked on the mouthful of pork he was chewing, swallowing quickly to twist in his seat and gape after the shorter man.
“I'm lucky he didn't what?” The dual-colored man shrilled, white eyes widening in dismay.
“Don't worry about it,” Sapnap laughed, striding away.
“No no no no—hold up, go back to the eating me part, Sapnap—” Daquavis scrambled out of his chair, dinner forgotten as he chased after the fireborn.
