Amanda stood up, watching Jack walk away. Was he dumb? Did he not see all of her previous escape attempts? Honestly, if she were trapping a borrower she would have been smart enough to put something heavy on top of the glass to keep it from moving again. Well, Amanda wasnât going to waste her chance. Amanda began shoving the glass towards the edge of the table like her life depended on it. Amanda realized with a gulp that it just might.
Jack didnât feel very good about leaving Amanda alone, but she was in a jar. Not like she could get out of it by herself. Jack walked up to the door and checked in the peephole, just to make sure it was who he thought it was. Couldnât have anyone else coming over and seeing Amanda after all. When he saw that it was indeed Dan, he opened the door.
âHey Dan, that was pretty fast.â He said, moving over a bit to let him in.
âHey Jack.â Dan greeted, trying to keep his energy contained. It took all his restraint to not bolt around the house immediately to try and find the borrower. It was astounding to think somewhere around them a tiny person was in the walls right now, probably even listening to their conversation. âHowâs it going so far? Any leads?â
âUm, yeah actually.â Jack rubbed the back of his neck. âSheâs in the kitchen right now, I kind of have her trapped inside a jar.â He winced, that sounded a bit better in his head.
Danâs eyes widened. âHowâd you do it?â
Jack shrugged. âWhen I got off the phone with you, she was outside of the walls and I kind of just...trapped her?â Jack shrugged again and pointed towards his kitchen.
âWe can head in there-â He was cut off by his phone ringing and he took it out. His eyebrow raised when he saw who was calling.
âUm, actually I should probably take this. You can go ahead without me, just be careful and try not to scare her, okay?â Jack knew Amanda was already scared, he didnât want her more so.
Dan raised an eyebrow. Why was Jack worried about scaring the borrower if it was already trapped? But Dan didnât want to ask too many questions and lose this opportunity. âSure thing, Jack.â
Jack watched Dan leave towards the kitchen and once again hoped to himself that this was a good idea. It was too late now anyway. He answered the phone.
 âHey Mark, whatâs up?â
Amanda panicked, hearing the humans in the other room. No, she was so close! Part of the glass was over the table edge, putting Amandaâs rope underneath her along with a very long drop to the floor. Amandaâs heart pounded as the footsteps approached. She gathered the hook and rope in her hands, preparing to jump. Looking up as the footsteps suddenly stopped, Amanda saw the human who she had hoped to never see again.
Danâs eyes went directly to the glass as he entered the room, eyeing the tiny female borrower barely under the glass on the edge of the table. A tiny string dangled beneath her. Looking closer, Danâs eyes widened in recognition.
âYou!â Dan exclaimed, looking irritated as he pointed an accusing finger at Amanda.
Amanda sprung into action. She leapt off the table, gripping her rope tightly. Maybe this time sheâd actually be able to make it to the ground.
Dan ran over to the table as the girl started falling. He made a grab for the girl, his hip bumping the table and causing the glass to fall to the floor and shatter to the ground  with a loud crash.
Amanda yelped as the glass sailed passed her, nearly hitting her in the head. She turned to watch itâs progress as her own progress stopped. With an âoof!â Amanda felt herself caught up in a human fist once more.
Dan grabbed the hook off the table and pulled the string out of her hands, setting it on the table as he stood up to examine the little girl closer. He could feel her frantically hitting and kicking his fist as she attempted to escape him once again, but Dan was determined this time that the little hotel thief wouldnât be leaving so soon.
Jack ran into the kitchen, heart beating fast. âWhat happened!?â He yelled, only to notice the glass covering the floor a second later. His eyes widened, but he was thankful to not see Amandaâs body down there as well. He looked up at Dan, only to notice that Amanda was in his hand. His breaths slowed and he calmed down slightly when it seemed like no one was hurt.
âWhat happened?â He asked more calmly.
Amanda winced, her ears ringing after Jackâs yell. She would have covered her ears if only her arms were free.
âShe was escaping.â Dan explained. âI found the glass on the edge of the table and it got knocked over as I caught her jumping off with this.â Dan picked up Amandaâs grappling hook and handed it over to Jack.
Jack hummed as he took the hook and glanced down to watch Amanda squirm in Danâs hand. He felt very bad all of a sudden. âUm, maybe you could put her down? I donât think she likes being held very much.â Although, by the way she was fighting the hand surrounding her, that was kind of an understatement.
Amanda scoffed. They were both talking about her like she couldnât even speak for herself.
âAlright, well do you have somewhere thatâs actually borrower-proof?â Dan asked, looking around. âThese lilâ guys are quite crafty, you know.â
âIâm right here!â Amanda emphasized her point with another well-timed kick. She didnât like the sound of a âborrower-proofâ anything.
âUm, I think my popcorn bowl might work?â Jack went over to a lower cupboard and got out the rather large red bowl. Jack took a look inside, figuring the sleek sides would be impossible for Amanda to climb out of. He set it on the table.
âThere, that should do it.â
