For today’s walk, we went to check on the native terrestrial orchids that grow next to a nearby national park.
There’s usually little drifts of caladenia orchids at this time of year, but this time, we didn’t find any at all. Instead, we saw colony after colony of tiny mosquito orchids, most of them just about to flower. They have just a single leaf to support their flower spike, and they’re small enough to be hard to photograph with a phone, but I did my best.
We also found a new colony of my favourite tiny greenhoods, just about to flower, and more mushrooms than I can remember seeing locally.
Plus some of the cutest lichen I’ve ever seen; look at those colours!
