I started making this recipe to try and remove corn from my lil girls diet. I double the recipe and divide it into 4 containers then freeze 3 of them. one container lasts about a week for 3 rats.Roughly 2 tablespoons are given 3 times a day.
My oldest rat Monkey has developed the inevitable tumors but since starting this food has become very active and has maintained a healthy weight. The tumors have also slowed in growth but I unsure if it's their diet or just a slow growing tumor.
1500 mg calcium from chewable tablets or liquid calcium with vitamin D( I end up getting the chewable calcium tabs and add liquid vitamin D that you are meant to take 1 table spoon a day. I add 2 tablespoons to the doubled batch)
2000 mcg chromium picolinate (yes, 2000 mcg is correct, the dose is based on their metabolism, not their weight)
250 mcg vitamin B12
40 mg manganese
3/4 C Total cereal
1 lb packaged (not bulk) soft tofu
4 t shelled raw sunflower seeds
1 T flax seeds
3 T raw rolled oats
4 t pearled barley( I have issues finding this so I add extra flaxseed, Oats and add 2 T Chia seeds)
4 T millet
4 T toasted wheat germ
2 1/4 T nutritional yeast flakes (5.6 g)
2 T blackstrap (dark or full flavor) molasses
Soak the tablets in a tiny bit of water and when soft, crush. Coarsely crush the Total in a plastic bag. Mash the tofu in a bowl. Add all ingredients together with warm molasses and mix thoroughly. Store covered in the refrigerator or freezer.
We have added fruits and veggies to their diet as well. We give 2 portions (roughtly the size of their head) a day. We use fresh and frozen veggies. This includes:
Hope everyone's ratties enoy this. Mine are in love with the stuff. This recipe is modified from the one off http://www.ratfanclub.org/diet.html
