When it comes to tips for a high C, the analytical, would be to communicate better.

First and foremost we need to understand that since you are so good with data (facts & figures) it’s not much about your feelings and thoughts. And that is what the I’s and S’s are looking for!

They want your feelings about your findings.

Don’t just focus on the data.

Here’s the big one, criticize less. And that’s a tough one. More praise and understand that most people are not all about the facts.

My growth tips: work more on expressing thoughts and feelings and focus less on facts; criticize less and praise more.

Tips for an S, the amiable personality — don’t run!

Don’t avoid the conflict; it’s a just difference of opinion.

Stand your ground and be a little more direct.

When you are talking, look people in the eye. Work on expressing thoughts and opinions in a group.

Most people want to know the S’s impression and thoughts.

Feel free to share your opinion more and contribution verbally — that’s my growth tip for the S.

Communication Tips for an i: Learn to communicate and interact effectively with Magnovo’s Tips Tuesdays DiSC Series

Now the communication tips for a high I, it seems funny, right?

But the biggest and most important tip is to talk less! Don’t just pipe in when you want to contribute when others are talking.

The other thing is that we tend to talk fast because we are so excited. Slow down just a little bit!

We can have trouble completing their thoughts. We get going and lose focus because their minds are racing!

We need to be careful about interrupting or dominating a conversation.

I’s think out loud and can verbalize what we are thinking we tend to interrupt.

So my growth tips for I’s are : talk less, listen more, speak slower and be careful about taking over a conversation.

Tips for a D: Learn to communicate and interact effectively with Magnovo’s Tips Tuesdays DiSC Series

For the next couple of weeks I want to give you some communication tips.

So let’s start with the Driver. The most important thing the D can work on is working on a more gentle approach. They are strong because their ability to have confidence and have a good ego when communicating.

They lack sometimes on the gentle approach to make every feel part of the team. Be aware of feelings and opinions, not just someone to listen to your commands.

Resist the ‘I need to win every argument‘. When convicted they believe in something they will fight for it.

But sometimes even when they are wrong (and we all are sometimes) is they feel like they need to win the argument! Being able to say you are wrong is important.

Avoid sarcasm. Sometimes a sarcastic facial expression or response is given when a D doesn’t like the message. Show value, show appreciation towards every member of the team — that’ my growth tip for the Driver.

Personalities are a Blend: Learn to communicate and interact effectively with Magnovo’s Tips Tuesdays DiSC Series

Now at this point in the series what I want to do is give you a few thoughts. One of the first is understand that you are not just one — not just a D or an I. We may have a primary, like a D but you also have secondary influence.

We are typically a ‘blend’ with the influence of a C or an I. Our style may change due to demands. Every style is very gifted, valuable and capable of leading!

It’s important to understand we may ‘ fall back’ on our dominant personality style when stressed. And any strength if overused can become a weakness.

For example, even though a D is good at making quick decisions — an impulsive decision may not be the best in every situation.

An I can be so excited about a project and it can be the wrong time — it’s time to get things done.

The C can be overly critical and the S can be too worried about the emotional side.

We need to balance and complement each other as a team. Coming together as one unit to share our strengths and minimize weakness — is the best way to work as a team!

Comparing DiSC Types: Learn to communicate and interact effectively with Magnovo’s Tips Tuesdays DiSC Series

In this section we will compare the different personality styles. We will look at the D, I, S, C and how they ask questions.

A D will ask the What questions: “What needs to be done? What are the expectations? ”

The I asks the Who questions: “Who gets to work on this project? Who is responsible?”

The C will ask How” “How does this get done? How are we expected to make this work? ”

The “S” ask the ‘WHY question: “Why are we doing this project? Why are our resources over here or over there? ”

It’s important to understand that D’s and I’s are very product oriented – they want to sell and convince people. The S’s and C’s are process driven and want to get things done.

D’s and C’s are task oriented they want to know exactly what is going to be done. The I’s and S’s are people focused ; they what to be sure that people are the most important element in the project.

The D’s will say “Do it my way’”.

The I’s will say let’s do it in a fun way “you CAN do it”.

C’s will say let’s do it the “right way”.

S’s will say let’s do it the easy way and “WE can do it”.

So, as you can see we need all the personalities to have a fully functioning team!

Now when we talk about the C and the value they bring to the team.

The dynamics are just a bit different; they are those ones who are anchored in reality. They are very common sense people. Very contentious and even-tempered in their approach to people and projects.

Thoroughness and going in order are keys. They are very good at gathering data, researching and test findings. It’s not about feelings, it’s about quantifying.

C’s are very quick and excellent at finding pitfalls and potential problems because it’s all about the facts! We think of them as great quality controllers because they test everything. They follow thought with strong details, they don’t mind the details.

They love to lead based upon their organization skills. That is their instinct: organizing and prioritizing. They are great assets to a team!

Now when we talk about the S’s they are really all about the team.

They love the aspect of team and are dependable and very loyal. Compliant to authority and good at following direction.

They produce high quality outcomes. They are great listeners, very empathetic and excellent at reconciling conflict.

Seeing through the conflict and getting to the emotion at the root of the issue is a gift.

Intuition and making connections are key strengths. They find simple, common sense approaches to solving problems.

Relating to other people is strength, sharing ideas in small, intimate groups.

Because of their dependability they have a high value to a team setting.
