I just found out about studio lan using generative AI to make scenes in the animated show link click (I think it was in a short or music video of some sort not sure haven't seen it myself from the original post just clips) - also only addressing it now because I learned about it now despite them using it in the past- but that's so disappointing. I understand they want to focus on "more creative works" they said from their Twitter post about the controversy but 😭 why is a company not doing their job? Don't make the video if you don't have time it's fine. An animation company is expected to produce animations. Not AI generated scenes. Anyone can do that it's not fun watching a company produce crap regular people can make. So no wonder people are upset after realizing they used ai. At least they said they used ai 😭 it would be much more annoying if they lied about it but I'm sure that's not legal to claim as official original content then. Or at least some laws around it. I heard that it's also normalized in China which is unfortunate but I can see it given some pretty poor work environments. I'm not excusing it. In fact this disappointed me. I always loved the animation, but knowing now that they take the easy way out of course plunged below my pretty low to begin with expectations. I'm positive they will NEVER use it in the actual production of the official show in any way, given they have lots of music videos without AI, (CGI and frame by frame animations instead). I also heard that they won't be in control of animating S3 which is a relief but still disappointing given the very good animation from S1 and 2. But they will still be involved some how.
Anyway. Just needed to rant. I'm not dropping the show unless ofc ai production makes its way INTO the show rather than side pieces then the show just went to crap anyway.
I love link click so much, it's one of my favorite shows. I just hope they keep the AI stuff to a minimum so it actually feels like they are still putting in as much effort as they were form the beginning. I know the ai usage wasn't much so far. But it's not needed either.
