Im very grateful to have coworkers that I enjoy working with (even though I am actively trying to leave because of management)... however

It just makes it that much more disheartening to have them just. Show me AI slop with zero regard for how unethical it is. Even without talking about the environmental impacts and actual damage its doing to peoples' minds- they try showing me videos and photos of AI slop that are made by putting REAL people into these generators. A coworker tried showing me an AI HP (which, i already didnt wanna see based on those two factors alone) where the actors who played these characters were put into this thing. Im sorry, but I dont think Daniel Radcliffe, whose already known for not wanting to be associated with that franchise, would want or consent to his face and voice getting put into a soulless machine. Its creepy and its really terrifying how willing and unbothered people are doing this. Nobody is safe from this either!!

And its wild because ill have people say "yeah no its horrible to put an artist's work into an AI machine, especially without permission!" And then the same people will turn around, giggle, and say "hey look at this AI video where its Markiplier singing XYZ song!"

Do you really think he gave any sort of permission for that? Would you want your face and voice stolen and warped by something you have no control over? Would you not be disturbed if a friend approached you, and happily told you they pressed your likeness into an engine with no soul or regard for your own morals? Would you not be horrified to have someone reveal a version of you, that they made without your knowledge, both completely false and entirely able to fool others?

Its genuinely horrifying to me that it isnt horrifying to many others. I may not always like my face or my voice, but theyre MINE. And they should remain things that can't be taken away.

Just saw ai slop wtf happened to tumblr

saw a "funny cat video"

it immediately triggered a sense that it was AI, but i didn't really see any specific tells.

it was a a cat freaking out at a cat statue. it felt too... perfectly captured? the intended emotion, too perfectly portrayed, as if it were intended to be read as human emotions on the cat.

but idk. maybe cats just look like that.

lets look at the other elements. there's a framed picture at the top of the video.

i couldnt tell you what of. a potted plant? weird but not conclusive.

lets look at the shelf.

that's some weird nondescript stack of plastic items. i couldnt tell you what that top item is. bizarre dimensions for a phone, plus it looks like a display is where you'd expect the speaker. and what kind of plug is that? USB?

not enough pixels to discern the left item. and that's a really flush door on the right, but not....... too crazy i guess? all of this is weird but not conclusive.

same thing, a few commenters claiming AI.

weirder, the source is... a really generic sounding username posting to a chinese subreddit with the additional comment of "Funny pets". weird.

reverse image search: 1 million reposts on every platform. i dont want to dig to find the original source... it's all pretty slop regardless of AI.

at this point i think....

even if it's not AI, it fills the same niche, doesn't it? maybe there's some value in rejecting these things just because it's slop, regardless of its authenticity. I'm still adjusting to that world.
