तीर्थ, वे पवित्र स्थान हैं जहाँ पर किसी महापुरूष का जन्म या निर्वाण हुआ था या किसी साधक ने साधना की थी या किसी ऋषि या देवी-देव की कथा से जुड़ी यादगारें हैं तीर्थ। जिससे लाभ नहीं होता। लेकिन सद्ग्रंथों में किस तीर्थ को श्रेष्ठ बताया गया है?

सब तीर्थों में श्रेष्ठ तीर्थ चित्तशुद्धि तीर्थ!

श्रीमद्देवी भागवत के छठे स्कन्ध, अध्याय 10 पृष्ठ 417 के अनुसार ‘‘तीर्थों के जल में स्नान करने से शरीर का मैल तो धुल जाता है, परंतु मन का मैल नहीं धुलता। उसके लिए तत्त्वदर्शी संत का सत्संग सुनना चाहिए। सत्संग चित्तशुद्धि करता है। इसे चित्तशुद्धि तीर्थ कहा जाता है। इसी का समर्थन गीता अध्याय 4 श्लोक 32 व 34 भी करता है।
