“Sometimes, Sensei says our worst fears come from within.”
April perks her head up from her latest issue of Fashion Freaks, surprised to hear such words come from Mikey, and not Leo. Placing the magazine down on her lap, she tilts her head, and pursues her lips. Mikey doesn’t move, but he keeps his eyes fixated on the screen, and, for a second, April wonders if he even spoke at all with an attention span like that.
Silence. A thought or two passes over the room. “Hm?” April finally hums.
Mikey continues to stare blankly at the TV from where he sits, before turning his head and glancing up at her, expression serious and, surprisingly to the red-head, quite solemn.
“we created those illusions.” He continues, his bright blue eyes searching April’s deeper blue-grey ones. “The mushroom stuff, I mean. We only believed it cause’ we created it in our mind, so it seemed real.” With a swift hand, Mikey reaches up and taps his forehead twice, before turning his attention back to the screen.
April blinks, and almost thinks nothing of it, until Mikey speaks again. “But what’s actually real?” Mikey says, much softer this time as he lets his head come to a rest between his hands. “For all we know cartoons could be real, and we could be fake. Or weird dancing mushroomy thingy’s. We never know.”
April ponders for a second or two, before lifting her magazine just beneath her nose. “Maybe.” She concurs, questioning once again how Mikey only seems to have these in-the-spur-of-the-moment-life-questions once in a while.
