There are situations where he’s fine with not having all the information or being bossed around but those are mostly situations that ties back into trusting Arecia. Missions and being given orders by people that aren’t Mother are examples. After some time Eight starts trusting Kurasame to a limit, which reinforces Eight being alright with those, as well as the other Commanders they work with closely also give a sense of security after proving to not be after stabbing them in the back. (In contrast, Eight’s likeliness to follow orders by the Commandant without a hint of dislike is rare. He’ll do it, but he’s more on edge when the orders come directly from him and not through a Commander he listens to.)
Things like being tied up or held hostage is the same, as long as he feels he’s in control he’s not scared. Worried maybe, but never does he feel fear. If it’s part of a plan it’s alright.
Entering enemy territory alone, however, is not one of those situations. He gets nervous then when he doesn’t have all the cards. Being kept in a place where the person he trusts most of all is the furthest away from him and knowing he can never let his guard down as long as they’re in enemy territory is what scares him, because it starts stripping him off the control he has. The less factors he has that he can control, the more uneasy he grows.
Aside from that, while it’s not a fear loud noises unnerves him. He used to be scared of lightning when he was younger, and while he’s not anymore he still doesn’t find those kinda noises pleasant. He’s used to it on the battlefield because of a certain mindset during those, but it’s hard to preserve it during daily life, so loud and sudden noises makes him flinch as much as he hates it.
