im not gonna get into the weeds of discourse or what is acceptable to depict (my thoughts have absolutely nothing to do with the question of "is he legal" i think the fixation on that is weird) but my (semi-joking) read of thistle and yaad's maturity is that yaad was effectively denied adolescence and that ironically allowed him to mentally mature more than thistle to a degree. yaad being more akin to someone on puberty blockers able to gain life experience and grow as a person vs. thistle magically locking himself into the phase of adolescence where you are just chemically insane and irrational for a couple years (or even decades, in his case...) stuck as a volatile hormonal teen for 1000 years. this is a fate worse than death i think

Thistle is a lot like a weasel with a broken leg. You see him in his little cast and you just think he's oh-so cute and pitiful and you just want to take him home and kiss his little nose and take care of him. But if you were to try, even if you put your feelings aside and went about it in the most professional way possible, he would bite you. He doesn't care that you're trying to help. He's still gonna bite you.

I love thinking about modern au thistle because he'd be very funny and eccentric and inconsistent in his neuroses but the thing is it's kind of hard to talk about because my thoughts always come back to how putting thistle in a modern setting is like opening the sandbox mode of self-destructive behavior.

HOWEVER Delgal would still be alive so i guess the worst he is going to be doing most of the time is consuming 4x the recommended daily amount of caffeine so he can be Extra productive and Delgal will be So Proud of Him! (he has already been to the ER twice because of this and has somehow not yet learned his lesson)

realizing there is one major consequence to my thistle gender hc and that is that in modern au he would probably be somewhere between slightly tomboyish cis girl and "i'm probably nonbinary but i have a job so idrc about that rn"

was falling asleep last night and had a waking dream of thistle so stupid i had to record it (because typing was too hard)
