It was found during the excavations of a magnate’s residence from the Late Iron Age and Viking period at Tissø, near Kalundborg.

This brooch from Tissø shows a valkyrie who leads a fallen warrior on a horse toward Valhalla. The numerous pieces of jewellery from Tissø depicting female figures indicate that the worship of Freyja was widespre
