Rewatching Attack on Titan... again, and I'll NEVER get over Reiner and Berthold's betrayal. Betologna had an entire back story at the ready and it was heart breaking, just for it to be a lie.
I’m sorry that took so long to get to you, but here is your Back-up Secret Santa Gift @dallyingdivergent! I have never been great at canon-verse stories, but I tried really hard to make it fluffy and fun for you! I really hope you enjoy it!
“Wheeeee! Levi, I’m flying!” Eren giggled infectiously as he swung his arms in excitement.
Rolling his eyes lovingly, Levi continued making his way down the castle hallways with his husband cradled in his arms. Eren was always out of it like this when he left his titan form, but after so many years of practice he was getting better and better at staying awake afterwards.
Unfortunately, Eren hadn’t quite mastered Ymir’s calm and collected exit from a titan yet and still struggled to staying awake fully. Instead he was at an in-between stage where he could stay awake after having shifted, but he still needed time to be back to one hundred percent.
Until that point, Eren was pretty out of it, almost as if he were high. Peeking at Eren as they rounded a corner, Levi couldn’t help agreeing with that conclusion. Eren was too busy staring at his fingerprints to notice him watching, confused about when ‘the little mazes got there.’
So Eren got eaten before he even knew he was a titan, how come the titan that ate him didn't inherit the attack/coordinate titan? Like if it was as easy as shifting in their stomach why hasn't any other titan shifter done it?
You know, I thought so much about this before the Uprising arc. It’s mentioned, I think by Rod, that Historia doesn’t necessarily have to eat Eren to take his power, but just bite through his spine to absorb some spinal fluid. Side note: If that’s what it takes to steal the power, it sounds like a sure deal that the then former Shifter probably wouldn’t regenerate and would die anyway. Interesting to think about what would happen if they got a syringe of the spinal fluid (Titan Serum) though and gave it to a Pure Titan. The Titan that ate Eren in Trost only cut off an arm, and Eren was already missing a leg. As far as I can remember, the only previous time we’ve seen an involuntary transfer of power, it was with Ymir and Marcel, and Marcel was dead before he got the chance. Why one of the four didn’t transform before is kind of a question I still have, but I can assume they were all in a state of shock.
TL;DR- To actually inherit a Titan Power by eating a Shifter, you have to get their spinal fluid. The one that got Eren in Trost didn’t, so Eren still had the opportunity to transform!
I hope that helps! Thanks for the ask!
I'm rewatching Attack on Titan, cause why not. And the AMOUNT OF DEDICATION Eren has is other worldly. I'm not sure I could just bite, MUNCH, Simply take a chunk out of my hand every time I needed to shift
I'm glad he gets past it, but he dead ass bites himself to the bone, Idk if I'd have that kinda dedication.
Tell me what do /you/ think happened to the soldier Bertholdt ate along with Ymir and how the whole eating thing work with titan shifter please.
Hmmm, that’s an interesting topic. I think it’s probably very likely that the Shifters that RBAM ate were already Titans under Marley’s control, so I assume it was probably a relatively standard process. They were probably tied up, RBAM given their respective serums, and the other Warriors were eaten. I imagine they probably have some degree of memories from that generation of Warriors now, but how they access them exactly I’m not sure. Maybe they need the magic Reiss Cave™ to activate it? If that’s the case, then the only reason Galliard has Marcel’s memories without it is because they’re brothers.
As for the whole transfer of power, I’m not 100% sure on the details. It does seem like certain Titans always take certain forms. The Armored Titan always has armor, the Colossal Titan is always huge, the Female Titan is always female, etc. etc. So then the process, in steps, would be:
Human given Titan SerumHuman turned into Pure TitanPure Titan eats ShifterPure Titan regains human form with that Shifter’s power.
The only remaining variable then would be “serum types.” I don’t think there’s any definite conclusion, but it stands in certain places. Ymir for example, was turned into a smaller titan when they took her to Paradis, and after killing Marcel, she stayed that size. Eren however, started very small, but after inheriting the two Titan Powers he has now, ended up @ 15 meters, which is the 3rd tallest of all the Shifters, behind only the Colossal Titan and the Beast Titan. Maybe certain Titans override the serum types? I imagine the Colossal Titan does that. I know @momtaku did some analysis on the whole “serum types” theory, so she’s probably more equipped to discuss it if you’re interested in hearing it in detail.
TL;DR: The Warriors RBAM ate were probably already in Marley’s control, and it was a standard inheritance procedure. Pure Titan eats Shifter to gain the power of that Shifter, but we’re not 100% sure how the size factor works.
I hope that answers the question but if not lemme know and I can take another shot at it! Thanks for the ask!
I've seen that you really like talking about the titan shifters so here's my question! If you were to inherit a titan power which one would you choose? And why?
Oh MAN I love this question! I also HATE IT because I DON’T HAVE AN ANSWER ;____; I have some thoughts though. Keep in mind this is a very preliminary answer that may or may not change with future developments because there’s still SO MUCH that we don’t know. If I had to pick one like, by form, I’d go with either the Progenitor Titan or the Attack Titan, whichever is the one Kruger/Eren use(d). The general look of Kruger and Eren’s Attack Titans is so cool I can’t even believe it. I’m not sure why Grisha’s looked so different, but if I was basing it solely on appearance, I’d probably go with one like Eren Kruger/Jaeger.
I don’t think we know all of the details about the Coordinate power that the Progenitor Titan has, and we know nothing about the Attack Titan’s power. We know about Reiner’s armor, Bert’s steam, Annie’s crystallization (hopefully that wasn’t just an armor serum and was a different kind of power entirely), Pieck’s long term transformations, and a bit about the Coordinate. That leaves Jaws, Attack, and Beast with no specific power information, as well as the unknown last Shifter. That said, the ability to transform into a certain Titan with a functionally Armored body, like Reiner, but at will, would probably be the best out of what we do know, if that’s even possible. One of the main bits of information I’m particularly looking forward to is the reveal of each Titan’s Power.
Lastly I think the only remaining variable is vocals. The way Eren’s Titan roars is SO COOL and it’s hands down my favorite. So in summary, Eren. Kind of a half-assed answer, but when we get more information about Titan Shifting, maybe from the Marleyan Titan Chemistry Research Society, I’ll totally have a lot more to think about. Thanks for the ask! I really appreciate it!
How many Titan Powers can there really be?
Okay so here’s something I’ve been thinking about for quite some time. We know that Ymir Fritz came into contact with something.
What is it? I don’t know. Why does it look like our Ymir’s Titan? I don’t know. But it’s something. She comes into contact with this thing that Kruger called “The Source of All Organic Life.” Now, we get conflicting information about what happens from Eldian history and Marleyan history. The Marleyans seem to think that this “Source of All Organic Life” was an evil being. Was it The Source of All Organic Life? Probably not. Was it evil? Also probably not. Whatever it is, we’ll call it Ymir’s Entity for convenience.
The only constant in both sets of history is that whatever happened, it gave Ymir Fritz the Power of The Nine Titans. Again, if she went on to help the world with it or destroy it conflicts in history again. As we understand it, 13 years later, Ymir Fritz dies, splitting the powers between 9 of her “descendants.” Whether they were her children, family, people of her same ethnicity, we don’t know for sure, but 9 of them inherited a Titan Power. Consequently, each of these new Shifters, upon activation of their powers, only had 13 years to live, just like Ymir.
Now, let’s analyze the data we have so far. Ymir encountered an entity which conferred a power to her.
Ymir Fritz received 9 Titan Powers
She lived for 13 years after receiving the power
When she died, the powers were split among a certain line of people
These people could live no longer than 13 years after activating their power
Now this is where we start to theorize. We’ll work with points 1 and 4. Let’s assume that the first point is static, meaning that it is unchanging if you were to alter another variable. There’s nothing specific to suggest it, but we’ll explore a scenario where this point is dynamic as well. Let’s assume that if a person comes across Ymir’s Entity, and performs whatever prerequisite action Ymir Fritz performed, that they’ll receive 9 Titan Powers, which will be the same every time. Since we don’t know the specific powers, we’ll just go by Titan name. A human who encounters Ymir’s Entity will receive:
The Power of the Progenitor Titan The Power of the Attack Titan The Power of the Female Titan The Power of the Beast Titan The Power of the Dancing Titan The Power of the Armored Titan The Power of the Colossal Titan The Power of the Cargo Titan The Power of the Jaw Titan (the new one)
We won’t do anything with this information yet, but remember it.
If we move onto the fourth point, using text-based evidence, we can assume that this point is dynamic, meaning that a variable can change it. Eren says that the reason that no Shifter can live more than 13 years is because that would make them "more powerful than Ymir Fritz." Using that same logic, if Ymir Fritz had lived for say, 15 years after she inherited her powers, it would stand to reason that Shifters could live for 15 years after awakening their powers. This would not make them more powerful than Ymir, fulfilling the only requirement for that point. Let’s re-evaluate our data with these points in mind.
A human who encounters Ymir’s Entity will receive THE Power of the Nine Titans.
This human can live for as long as any other human, unaffected by their powers.
When this human dies, each of the nine powers will be passed on to a line of people somehow related to them.
The amount of years that this person had the Power of The Nine Titans before their death is the maximum lifespan of those who inherit this set of powers. Notice that I said this. That will be important very soon.
Let’s take a look at this map
Matching geographical similarities, this could be a viable map for the world. Notice the X. Roughly, that area should contain quite some trees/forest area. (really it should be a little bit more north but the word Marley is in the way)
If Eldia once had territory in that area, and we know the area to be covered in trees, the setting of Ymir’s meeting with the entity, we can start putting some ideas together. For the purpose of this theory, we’ll assume Ymir Fritz met the entity at the X on the map, though it could have been anywhere and the theory would still work. Marley now has control of that land. There’s nothing to suggest that Ymir’s Entity is gone. It’s theoretically possible that the X is the location of Ymir’s Entity, and that it still resides there.
We know that Ymir Fritz was an Eldian. If we assume that Ymir’s Entity still lurks around that area, absolutely nothing is stopping a wandering Marleyan from encountering it. Again, we don’t know what Ymir Fritz did during her interaction with the entity, but something did occur. We’ll call the wandering Marleyan John. Let’s say John were to encounter Ymir’s Entity, and do the same thing that Ymir Fritz did. Would John not then inherit a set of nine Titan Powers? Would John not then proceed to pass these powers down a line of Marleyans, perhaps his own family? Do you see where this is going? Could this then cause the Marleyans, including John’s lineage (Similar to Reiss family perhaps?) to possess their own set of Titan Powers, identical, or nearly identical to the Eldians?
Lastly, we need to look at the reasoning and any possible variance that could occur in the aforementioned scenario. There is no evidence to suggest that Ymir’s Entity does not still roam the Earth; therefore it certainly could be encountered again. Using the only outwardly stated logic, that inheritors of any given power can live no longer than the Original Titan of that line, we may be able to assume that the life span limit would apply to Marleyan Titans as well. The last few points that need to be considered are possible variances. There is not anything to suggest that the Nine Titan Powers of the Eldians are the only set of Titan Powers that Ymir’s Entity can confer. This might mean that John could inherit a different set of 9 Titan Powers compared to Ymir Fritz. The next thing to consider is the transference of John’s Titan Powers. Ymir Fritz’s Nine Titan Powers were transferred at her death to nine Eldians, who we believe were newly born children born at the time of Ymir Fritz’s death. The power of the Progenitor Titan was presumably kept within her family. Including the brief mention of Eldian “paths,” there is nothing to suggest that this pattern is the only way of inheritance. Perhaps John’s Titan Powers do not pass only to newborn children. Perhaps he can transfer them at his own will. Maybe the all stay in his family, who knows? Until we learn more about Ymir’s Entity, its method of conferring Titan Powers, and the potential of these Titan Powers, the possible variances are many.
I won’t begin to discuss how this could affect the war, or anything of that sort, but we haven’t received confirmation that it isn’t possible.
