What's that smell? • • • 🌺 A corpse flower of course! 🌺 • • • FACT! • The corpse flower, known as titan arum, is a flowering plant that, once it blooms, gives off an odor like that of a rotting animal • The titan arum, on average, requires 7-10 years of vegetative growth before blooming for the first time • Once bloomed, the flower generally begins to wilt within 12 hours. However, some have stayed in bloom for up to 48 hours • • • The titan arum, pictured here, is named Sprout and is currently at the Chicago Botanic Gardens @chicagobotanic.
