The problem more than anything was that these trade deals were done without regard to workers' rights; in fact, that was the point: Reagan and Clinton wanted to get rid of the unions, Reagan to kneecap the Democratic Party, and Clinton to kneecap the Democratic Party.
The DLC was always a Libertarian front group, by the way. It was founded by Koch Industries.
i mean, the thing is that you can't really turn back the clock, which it seems is what trump and the whole maga project (and frankly project 2025) want to do (or it is perhaps more likely the fantasy they're trying to sell to their followers.)
what trump et al. AREN'T telling their supporters is that if manufacturing does in fact pick back up in the united states, these companies are going to be looking to automate most of those jobs. maga people in general (and frankly the many labor unions that did in fact support donald trump) are being taken for a total ride here if they think this is going to open up the old abandoned steel mill in some slowly decaying rust belt town. manufacturing in the united states is a dead end at this point. we can point fingers as to who is to blame for that, but it's currently a fait accompli.
