Taillefer so similar to Keefe to me. maybe Keefe if he’d never been taken in by the Vackers?
like, his family is so self-seeking and willing to push each other down to get what they want. and Taillefer is too. he did all his experiments bc he wanted the crown.
but even though they push each other down, they’ve always had each other. you can tell he and Renard annoyed each other to death, but they did care about each other. bc that’s family. they grew up together.
but Taillefer took it too far. his extreme pursuit of the crown caused him to get lost in the goal and he ended up being that first falling domino that led to his brother’s death, which gave his mother an easy way to keep him from the crown forever.
so now he’s alone.
no brother. no mother. no crown.
not even a home bc he’s on the run.
it’s all gone. it’s not a game anymore.
so now he’s looking for a way to not be alone. someone else who will tolerate his presence. he hides it with humor (another Keefe parallel), but i think he really just wants a place to belong.

And his somewhat redemption arc OUGHHH
He is SUCH an interesting critter and I want to cut him open and study his brain he is so FASCINATING 😊
And I TOTALLY see the Keefe parallels ngggg
I can not get over what he did to Luca tho
The others may have (kinda) forgiven him but I don't lolll
I WISH we got inside his head more besides one the chapter I NEED TO KNOW WHAT IS GOING ON IN HIS BRAIN
