The Starless Sea // Zachary & Dorian (3/6)
There are so many pieces to a person. So many small stories and so few opportunities to read them. ‘I would like to look at you’ seems like such an awkward request.

The Starless Sea // Zachary & Dorian (3/6)
There are so many pieces to a person. So many small stories and so few opportunities to read them. ‘I would like to look at you’ seems like such an awkward request.
The Starless Sea // The Moon & the Innkeeper (5/6)
The Moon had never asked a boon of Death or Time but there was something that she wished, that she wanted, that she desired more than she had ever desired anything before. A place had become precious to her, and a person within it more so. The moon returned to this place as often as she could, in stolen moments of borrowed time.
She had found an impossible love. She resolved to find a way to keep it.
The Starless Sea // Fate & Time (2/6)
Once, very long ago, Time fell in love with Fate. Their romance disrupted the flow of time. It tangled the strings of fortune into knots. The stars conspired and separated the two. For a while they breathed easier in the heavens. Time continued so flow as it always had, or perhaps imperceptibly slower. Fate wove together the paths that were meant to intertwine, though perhaps a string was missed here and there. But the world is strange and endings are not truly endings no matter how the stars might wish it so.
Occasionally Fate can pull itself together again and Time is always waiting.
The Starless Sea (1/6)
He has untangled himself from vines blossoming with stories filled with flowers. He has traversed piles of abandoned teacups with text baked into their cracked glaze. He has walked through puddles of ink and left footprints that formed stories in his wake that he did not turn around to read.
The Starless Sea // The Owl King (6/6)
The future crashing into the present like a wave. Its wings beat in the spaces between choices and before decisions, heralding change…change of the long-awaited sort, the change foretold by prophecies and warned of by omens, written in the stars.
“Who are the stars?” It is a question Zachary has thought before but not yet asked aloud, though he remains confused as to whether the Owl King is a person or a bird or a type of weather.
Simon stares at him and blinks.
“We are the stars,” he answers, as though it is the most obvious of facts afloat in a sea of metaphors and misdirections.
We are all stardust and stories.
The Starless Sea // Simon & Eleanor (4/6)
It is easier to be in love in a room with closed doors. To have the whole world in one room. In one person. The universe condensed and intensified and burning, bright and alive and electric.
But doors cannot stay closed forever.
