Julia and Kady meet as first year students at Brakebills University. Their budding romance is tested when students start to go missing around campus. One night, they find themselves in the path of a vengeful spirit known only as The Beast. When The Beast tries to drag Kady into the mirror world from which he came, Julia intervenes, becoming possessed by him in the process. Julia feels the darkness inside her and worries that The Beast will take over her, but Kady vows to be by her side no matter what. They spend many happy years together until Julia begins to wake in the night with her hands around Kady’s throat. Afraid for Kady’s safety, Julia magically seals herself in the mirror world. Kady attempts to summon The Beast and begs to be taken like all the others. But The Beast was different now because The Beast was also Julia. And Julia wouldn’t. Julia would never. Now, Kady carries a mirror with her at all times and checks it frequently, hoping to get a glimpse of her beloved.

Summary:
Alice and Julia run The Wick Inn, a B&B where the couple uses their magic to make love connections among their guests. Emerging glam rockstar, Eliot Waugh, spends some time at the inn to get away from the spotlight, at least that’s the story his manger, Margo Hanson is telling. With A LOT of encouragement from Julia and Alice, Eliot gets to know Quentin Coldwater, a novelist searching for inspiration for his next book.
