Another one of my hot takes is it should have 1000% been Kady who anoints Julia in oil for that weird ritual. Like, obviously. Penny 23 would have volunteered himself, of course, but then Kady should have told him he’s full of shit and doesn’t know the first thing about this Julia and she would do it instead. Because they’ve actually been through a lot together. And she was literally there when Persephone gave her the god spark or whatever.

Magicians fandom (if any of y'all are still here)! Remember that time I almost wrote a Wickoff fic in which Julia goes through with killing Reynard? here's a lil snippet in case you need refreshing:

The gun is in her hand. “You’re a survivor,” Our Lady Underground tells her, and she wants to believe it, she does, but she’s spent months of her life certain that she’s already been buried under six feet of dirt. This is not what survival looks like. “You’re still capable of mercy, Julia. Don’t let him rob you of that.” But he has. Doesn’t she understand? Persephone, stolen to the underworld by a man who wanted to own her. She’s supposed to understand the things that men take from women. She should know what it means to be robbed. Julia’s hand shakes. Kady’s eyes are telling her to shoot. She doesn’t know what she’s feeling, or if she can still feel anything. There’s a knot in her chest, or maybe a hole. There may not be a difference anymore. Maybe there never was. “It’s your choice,” Our Lady Underground tells her softly, touching her face. Julia knows what she’s supposed to do, the things she’s supposed to give up. But the gun is still in her hand. She takes aim at Reynard and pulls the trigger. * This is the world the Gods abandoned. This is the world that killed the Gods. Nobody knows why the plumbers came, who it was they were avenging: Reynard, Ember, Umber. There are consequences to killing a God. “I bought milk,” Kady says, setting it down so hard on the counter that the plastic nearly cracks. Julia smiles at her. “Thanks.” Her apartment is grey no matter how many lamps they buy, but she doesn’t wake up in tears most mornings. Nothing feels as heavy as it should, and she tries to pass that on, like a blessing she can give away to others. Kady refuses to look at her, rejecting both the blessing and her thanks.
