where did your profile picture and blog background come from? I don’t think I’ve seen that version of Baxter before (unless you drew it)
Both of those came from the Mutant Turtles manga vol #2, published by Dengeki Comics in 1994!
This particular volume covered adaptions of "A Thing About Rats" and "Hot Rodding Teenagers from Dimension X". (Bonus: the back cover has illustrations of the Neutrinos!)
This manga series was generally lighter in tone than the show and thus featured an art style that is panned by many readers, but honestly, I like the quirky "ugliness" of it. They're a pretty obscure part of TMNT history, but I think they deserve a little more love.
The funny (well, maybe not funny) thing is that Baxter is treated even more gruffly here than he was in the show! After the Turtles rescue him from the Foot Soldiers, you see here that he's thanking them and even shakes their hand, only to be unceremoniously tied up and interrogated even more brutally.
I like how the manga fills in some of those extra little details that we don't see in the show because, especially here, it provides a slightly fuller picture, and it's interesting to see it from the perspective of the manga artist. Wonder if even they were confused why the Turtles were so hostile to poor Baxter, but needed to play it up for laughs since the tone was much more focused on humor?
