How about a lil Ignis preg for this round, eh?
It never boded well when the doctor gave a small exclamation of “Oh!” during that one check-in. At first it was worrying for Ignis and Gladio to hear that, but the doctor was quick to explain nothing was wrong, just that… The baby’s head was really big. Gladio laughed, Ignis rested his palm over his face.
When asked if either of them had big-headedness in either of their families, Gladio chuckled on and said, “Well, we both made that baby.”
Ignis could only groan out, “Don’t remind me.”
This may have become Ignis’s new small obsession, taking place of the previous one being how he would learn to cook, homemade baby food that was just the right mixture of flavors and provided the best for the baby. He had to know just how a big head would change things in the outcome of this child being born… The doctor mentioned nothing drastic enough to change the current birth plan, but some readings he saw were not leaving him convinced that he shouldn’t care more.
While Ignis lounged in the bath, concentrating hard on his task alone, he couldn’t help to have his mind wandering all throughout. His head leaned back more on the rolled up towel against his neck and tried to tell his mind to perish the thoughts.
That snapped Ignis from whatever was on his mind as Gladio slipped into the bathroom with a phone in hand.
“The guys are ask—“ Gladio stopped and then looked Ignis up and down, “Oh. Oh shit sorry, didn’t realize you were uh… Alone time-ing it in here.”
Ignis blinked and then looked down to where his hand was—“Ah, no no, nothing of that sort,” he withdrew his hand, “Was… It was a massage.”
“So as to help not tear?”
Ignis gently closed his eyes to avoid rolling them, “… You had a question?”
“Oh yeah,” Gladio looked at his phone, “They’re asking when we’re meeting again for dinner, it’s at 6, right?”
“Mhm,” Ignis looked down at the water, his body coming through the suds and ripples, with his belly just nearly cresting the surface.
As he walked out, Ignis reached for him, “Oh, Gladio!”
That caught his attention very quickly, Ignis didn’t think his voice sounded so desperate, but it must have slipped out of him.
“I was just thinking,” Ignis said, voice more mild mannered, “Maybe instead… I should go with a c-section.”
Gladio seemed to have no thoughts and also some that he was stuck on when Ignis said that. He suspected that he might have been trying to remember—but no, he was smart, he had been there for the appointments and he knew. No need to give him such little credit. Still, the pause concerned Ignis as Gladio was not forthcoming in a response.
“… Alright,” Gladio finally settled on saying, “If… That’s what you want.”
Ignis rested his hands over his bump, “… You sound disappointed.”
“Huh?” Gladio shook his head, “Oh, sorry, nah I’m not disappointed. But… Just kinda worried.”
Ignis scoffed, “It’s a perfectly safe surgery that is performed all the time, Gladio.”
Gladio shrugged, he couldn’t argue that, “Well, what’s making you change your mind?”
Ignis was not expecting to be put on the spot, he hardly expected Gladio to even care this much. No, this man cares a lot, it was wrong of Ignis to assume him to be detached like that. He took a breath in before he spoke, “It’s… Well you heard what the doctors said…” He rubbed his hand down his belly, “… The child’s head is rather large.”
Ignis heard a small snicker.
“Gladio, this is serious.”
“Aw c’mon, Iggy,” Gladio knelt down by the side of the tub, “The doc’s not even that concerned about it, we both got it in our families, and we came out fine!”
“But it might not always be so!” Ignis argued, “It increases the risk to need a c-section, or worse, vacuum suctioning!”
Gladio did a double take on that, “Wh… Ignis, really?”
Ignis frowned and turned his back to Gladio, “Never mind it then.”
“No, Iggy—“ Gladio groaned, “Look, if you want to change things up, we can! But I think that if this was a big enough deal, the doctor would’ve made it one.”
“Then we need a new doctor, this one clearly does not care.”
“Yes he does,” Gladio reached over and rubbed Ignis’s back, “But, look, if you want a second opinion… Alright, we can go get one. I just want you choosing whatever’s gonna be most comfortable for ya. If that’s the c-section, fine, if it’s not, then good,” He then leaned in to kiss his shoulder, “No matter what, I’m gonna be there by your side, I promise.”
Ignis felt that bubbling anger quickly defuse and simmer down, he couldn’t stay mad even if he tried. He turned back around and met his lips with Gladio’s, “Mh, I would appreciate the second opinion at least.”
Gladio smiled and kissed his cheek, “We can get a third too just to be sure.”
Ignis smiled and shared another kiss with him, “And a fourth?”
