The Night Manager, Episode 5
I just find this entire scene equal parts mesmerising and heartbreaking. It’s a masterclass in acting. Not a single word is uttered and yet it screams just how conflicted Pine is becoming. He knows he’s working for a greater good, but he’s clearly wrestling with the fact that he’s just killed a man - albeit a man complicit in evil undertakings - to keep his own deception secret. He’s wondering if he’s done enough. Is he safe now? Does Roper still believe his cover story? The symbolism of the water is also important. He seems to be literally washing his conflicted emotions away and steeling himself for the inevitable confrontation.
