The Escape Room overall being Michelle’s idea
Season One - 1/6
“Get the Party Started”, “Everybody Dance Now”, “Dance Dance"
Emily goes out of her way to introduce herself to Michelle, and then once Michelle has decided to not give Emily the respect she thinks she deserves (see: Emily miffed that Michelle agrees to audition for Dance Captain when Miss Kate threatens to revoke Michelle's spot if she won't compete against Emily) and has broken what's in her eyes protocol—make Michelle uncomfortable in the hopes she'll leave.
Extreme? Yes.
Provocative? Yes.
Something she would have done anyway? No.
In contrast to how Emily behaves with the E-Girls, this is largely reactive.
And of course, she plans and controls the dance to decide the dance captaincy with an iron fist.
Michelle puts herself out there in this new studio, quietly but confidently lists her credentials and purposefully flies under the radar--she wants fair treatment, and to make friends.
She's in support of Emily appointing herself Dance Captain, initially turning down the position when the opportunity is offered to her—but takes the responsibility of being elected a potential Dance Captain to heart.
Michelle suggests the warm-up, and that the dancers have say into their own choreo.
Despite the choreography being collaborative, and not solely consisting of Michelle’s ideas, contrary to perceptions Michelle is actively in control.
This is a juxtaposition that will carry throughout the series again and again - Michelle sees a broad, idealistic-almost-pipe-dream future, and Emily concerns herself with the details of what she can already see.
