1) Lay out the fitted sheet on a completely flat surface, elastic band facing up.
2) Fold the sheet in thirds lengthwise by bringing one long side in across the center, then the other. This step should leave you with a long, narrow rectangle.
3) This time, fold the rectangle in half widthwise.
4) Roll the fitted sheet from one short side to the other until it forms into a nice compact cylinder shape.
No but hating gays because of Christianity is really stupid and I hate it so so so much because I read the same book that you do and I praise the same God that you praise, and me and everyone I choose to be around is perfectly fine with it. So who gives YOU the right to hate gays and what makes YOU so special that you get to hate someone for something they can’t control? Does God talk to you and give you special treatment for being a douche bag? No he doesn’t so shut up with your homophobic bull because everything that comes out of your mouth is absolute trash and I couldn't care less about your opinion on anything
a/n - this is the last chapter (but definitely not the last thing I'm writing in this 'verse). enjoy!
Chapter Six:
"I'll be seeing you, love," Alex said, kissing the top of Morgan's head. "Dress nice, I hear there's a wedding today."
Morgan giggled. "See you later, Tar!"
"Are those envelopes on the nightstand yours, Alex?" Caleb asked.
"Those are for you," replied Alex.
Caleb kissed her. "I'll read them later, then, shall I?"
"Good plan," she responded. "See you at work."
--
In a twist of fate that was so predictable that Ariana Campbell and Myles Hall actually had money on it, Alex and Caleb showed up to the wedding late, sweaty, and covered in someone else's blood.
At least Jack and Maria had stopped at home and changed.
It suited them, though. Just like getting spontaneously engaged during a weevil hunt.
Alex scanned the crowd for a woman with wildly curly hair and a man in a silly hat and bow tie. She found them sitting next to River's parents. She gave them a little smile - he showed up! - and then returned her attention to Caleb.
--
Despite Alex's best efforts, Jack and River ended up at a table sitting next to each other at the reception, flirting up a storm.
"Jack. Jack, stop. Jack!" she said.
He looked up at her. "Yes, Allie?"
"One, she's married," replied Alex.
"I know that," said Jack.
"He's dancing, though," River complained, gesturing to the dance floor where the Doctor was dancing with Martha Jones.
Alex rolled her eyes. "Yeah, I can see that. That's point two. Jack, dance with me." She held out her hands.
He took them and stood up. "I suppose I can do that for you."
They danced together through the end of a fast song and through all of a slow song. During the slow one, they talked.
"Only you two would show up to your own wedding looking like this," Jack commented.
Alex shrugged. "Figured it's our wedding, we can get away with it."
Jack laughed. "Did you see the looks you got from Caleb's family?"
"Oh yes!" replied Alex. "Priceless. 'cept for Ariana, of course. I think she was expecting it."
"I'm pretty sure she won a bet, actually," Jack told her.
The Doctor tapped Alex on the shoulder. "Mind if I take over?"
Alex kissed Jack on the cheek. "Thanks for dancing with me, Jack." She turned to the Doctor.
"You are a mess," he observed as they started to dance. "Didn't even dress nice for your own wedding."
"I can wear a t-shirt and jeans to my wedding if I want to!" responded Alex.
"Clearly."
Alex laughed.
The Doctor put his top hat on her head. "There. Now you look respectable."
"Right, because the top hat totally makes up for the blood stains and alien guts," Alex replied sarcastically.
"Exactly!"
"Did you convince Rory to dance with you yet? I saw you talking to him."
"Not yet, but I will. He said no at his wedding, but I got him to eventually."
Alex just laughed again.
Eventually, Caleb pulled her away from the Doctor and over to a table.
"I read your letters," he told her.
"...and?" she asked.
Caleb smiled, then pressed his lips to hers. When they separated, he said, "Next time, you're taking me with you."
It had been sitting on her nightstand. Every once in a while, it would buzz and light up, but she didn't bother checking.
One "day", the Doctor picked it up. "Have you been ignoring someone?"
"Not someone, everyone," corrected Alex. "I'm not picky."
He unlocked the phone and announced, "You've missed thirteen texts. Eight of them are from Caleb."
"He's probably just nervous," Alex said offhandedly. "I sure as hell am."
The Doctor handed the phone to her. "Then answer him."
Alex read the messages.
A bunch of them were random nervous babbling from Caleb. Two were from Morgan, telling her to call Caleb because he was stressed. Three were from Jack, who'd come home to an empty flat and was worried.
The very last one said:
You're probably asleep or something. That's okay. I just wanted you to know that even though I'm freaking out and you're freaking out (don't lie, I know you are), I love you and I've never regretted this decision for a minute. - C
Alex smiled. Maybe I've been running away long enough.
She looked up at the Doctor. "Hey Doc? One more adventure."
The Doctor raised his eyebrows. "I'd have thought -"
"Shut up and let me finish," Alex ordered. The Doctor nodded, holding a finger to his lips. "One more adventure. I want to go get married."
The Doctor grinned. "Right! Well, I'll just drop you off in Cardiff, and -"
"That sentence had better end with 'go pick up my date'," replied Alex.
He nodded. "Of course. I wouldn't dare miss the wedding after all this."
"You just keep her away from Jack," she told him. "There are so, so many reasons that putting them close together would be a bad idea."
--
Caleb,
I got your text.
I'm coming back.
Love,
Alex
--
Alex crept past Morgan, who was fast asleep on the sofa bed, and into Caleb's room. She set down her small stack of letters on the nightstand and crawled into the bed next to him. He rolled over and opened his eyes, then blinked a few times.
"...Al?" he said sleepily.
"Hey, love," she replied. "We're getting married today."
"I know," Caleb mumbled.
"I got a lift over here from a friend," Alex continued. "A pretty roundabout lift, but a lift nonetheless. There's something I want to tell you in the morning, but for now we should just sleep."
"Right," said Caleb, nodding. He was practically already asleep. "Love you."
"I love you, too, Caleb," Alex responded quietly. "G'night."
She hated sleeping on her own. Hated the idea of the Doctor and River together.
When she closed her eyes, though, she stopped hating it quite so much. She could practically feel the bony knee of her underfed, overtired time lord pressing into her back. Could almost feel the heavy arm of her hundreds of years older brother resting across her waist.
She was pretty sure that it was the TARDIS doing it, making this illusion of her boys' presence to comfort her.
This was because she knew, in the logical part of her brain, that neither of them were there or could be there. Jack was safe at home far away from there. The Doctor was no longer even the same man, and besides that, the fact that he was off in some other bedroom with River was the reason this was happening in the first place.
So she never opened her eyes. Because she was sure that if she did, the illusion would vanish as soon as she saw the empty space on either side of her.
One night, the TARDIS apparently decided to shake things up.
She could almost hear his breathing. That was what tipped her off - this wasn't Jack's slow, deep breathing or the Doctor's irregular near-whimpering breaths. This was unmistakably Caleb, with his snoring and his whispered 'I love you's when he thinks she's asleep.
She opened her eyes, taking in the darkened, empty room.
"Quit meddling," she muttered.
I'm not meddling, the TARDIS replied immediately. It's your subconscious.
"Like hell it is," responded Alex. "It's you with your unsubtle hints that you think I should go back."
You should.
"Like. Hell."
--
Caleb,
Tara thinks I miss you.
I mean, of course I miss you.
But she thinks I should go back.
I don't think I can do that yet. Sorry.
There are still too many adventures left for me to have right here. Well, not right here exactly. We're in the vortex again. Not many adventures in the vortex.
That's actually a lie - we once went on a quest to find squash court number... six, I think it was? It was surprisingly eventful.
Anyway, more adventures to be had before I leave home.
"I saw her near the Face of Boe earlier, I think," she replied.
The Doctor was surprised. "I didn't know he was at this event."
The woman smiled. "He is - just over there, see?" She pointed over to the left.
The Doctor nodded and walked in the direction he'd indicated. He saw Alex sitting cross-legged in front of the Face of Boe's tank.
Of course he's with me, she was thinking. I couldn't have gotten here without him.
Right, responded the Face. Which one?
The one with the bow ties and all of those silly hats, answered Alex, giggling.
When are you? the Face asked.
I'm getting married tomorrow, Alex replied. She seemed almost... sad?
And how far away is tomorrow?
I'm not sure yet.
"Allie!" the Doctor called.
That's my ride, commented Alex. "I'm coming, Doc!"
All my love to long ago, Xandra, the Face of Boe said.
Alex reached out and touched the glass. And mine to the far-flung future, big brother.
She stood up and walked over to the Doctor.
"It's really him, then?" the Doctor said by way of greeting.
"Crazy, isn't it?" replied Alex. "So unspeakably old, but still him. Will he ever actually...?"
The Doctor nodded. "A few years from now. Martha and I were there. Will be there."
"Does ours know?"
"Can't tell anyone their personal future."
"Hardly his personal future that far off."
"Is so."
"Is not."
"Is SO!"
"God, you're like a nine-year-old!"
--
Caleb,
You know how Jack's immortal?
I just met him years and years and years and years from now. But not now, exactly, because our 'nows' aren't the same right now. Years from then. Because in my now he's - but he's not, because I'm writing in the Vortex!
I hate English. No good verb tense for time travel.
He was-is-will be so different now-then, though. It's crazy.
When I first saw him, I didn't know it was him. I mean, Jack's mentioned an old nickname, but I thought he was joking. He looked-looks-will look so different. Either way, I'd actually forgotten about it. But then I met this giant alien head in a fish tank and he called me Allie and told me he'd missed me. Then I remembered. I didn't really know what to say. So I just answered the questions he asked me about where on my timeline I am-was.
He didn't answer my questions, though. Pulled a River Song on me. "Spoilers", you know?
Well... maybe you don't. Someday I'll introduce you to her. You'll understand.
"Already am, Doc. Keep up!" Alex replied. She grabbed his hand and dragged him after her.
A few moments later, the Doctor slammed the door of the TARDIS behind them and looked up to see River Song standing at the console.
"Hello, Sweetie," she greeted.
Alex dropped the Doctor's hand. "I'll be in my room, 'kay?"
Without waiting for a response, Alex kissed the Doctor on the cheek and walked up the stairs. She didn't even acknowledge River.
"She doesn't like me," River observed.
"Does so," replied the Doctor. "She's just stressed. Getting married in the morning, you know."
"And how far away is the morning?" asked River.
"However far away she needs it to be," the Doctor answered. "See, she's running away. Proof she's stressed. She likes you just fine."
"One doesn't prove the other, Doctor," River said.
The Doctor shook his head. "I don't know what you're talking about."
--
"I don't like her," Alex said as she flopped onto her bed.
Why not? the TARDIS replied. I do.
Alex rolled her eyes. "Well, of course you do. You have to. You're practically her mum!"
Amelia's her mother, said the TARDIS. Why don't you like River?
"Tara, my love, you're in my head. You know exactly why I don't like River," Alex declared.
I do, admitted the TARDIS.
"You saw him last time," Alex reminded her. "That hurt to watch."
I know. But he's not here, the TARDIS replied.
"Doesn't matter," said Alex. "Look, Tar, clearly we're not going to agree on this. Would you mind just letting me wash up and go to sleep?"
Of course not, Sweetheart, the TARDIS said politely. A bit too politely, if Alex wasn't just completely paranoid because she was complaining about one of Tara's favourite babies.
--
Caleb,
My least favourite archaeologist showed up today. Although I suppose it's kind of weird that I know enough to have a least favourite. Anyway, something about River just bothers me, even outside of that thing I told you about. She just makes me kind of uncomfortable.
Tara thinks it's silly, the Doctor doesn't get it, and it makes Jack feel guilty. So I don't exactly have anyone to talk to. And I wouldn't, even if Jack was around.
Also, I'm pretty sure that River and Doc are off in one of the many bedrooms in the TARDIS, which makes me even more uncomfortable.
Wish you were here, love. (and I mean that, I'm not just being cheesy or feeling obligated because we're getting married)
