Till glädje (To Joy) | Ingmar Bergman | 1950
Erland Josephson, Stig Olin
Dearest Joy,
I have been thinking a lot about you, about us. I was stupid and it costs me to admit so, but it would costs me much more to let you go. Know that I never meant everything I said to you, those horrible words that eagerly left my mouth, I never meant them. My deepest fears were always to bring you harm and now that I did, I can not forgive myself.
To love is a thing I never thought I would be able to do, but you taught me that there is nothing I can not achieve. So I promise to be better, for you and for me. I always imagined my life as lonely as my mother’s despite having so many people around, but I can not now imagine such a thing, now that I had a taste of a life with you. Watching you cry because of me, because of what I did to you, haunts me every night since. I tried to talk to you, I tried to approach you, but you are pushing me away and I understand. I do. I hope that on your part, you will understand that I will not give up so easily. Therefore, as a first amendment I left you a canvas and some new brushes in your room. Your friend helped, thank her for me again. I recall you telling me how much you missed painting and I miss your art as well. Do no get my words wrong, I am not trying to buy you back, I am just trying to demonstrate that I care. Also, you looked stunning today, I wish I could tell you those words in person. Hopefully you will allow me to do so soon.
Always yours,
Blaise Zabini.
