this is kind of like...archetype shmup music?
I’m not too much of a fan, though there’s nothing really going against it.

Twin Cobra
the YM2612 is technically more advanced than the YM3812 used here (more operators = more options), and the composers used this by attempting to create more “realistic” instruments on the Genesis.
I think the less realistic instrumentation of the arcade version is better.
I know it has the stereotype shmup octave bassline but I dig “Our Life (Stage 5, 10)”
Vimana
it’s relatively short, but it’s pretty good quality!
beefy instrumentation, fun arrangement,
and interestingly this ROM was only dumped recently. if I had started this blog instead of my Genesis one, this game wouldn’t be included. neat.
anyway, check out “The Power of Darkness”
Wardner
this had a genesis port, but I think I can safely say that the music fits better on the adlib-esque sounds heard here. (on the tracks that match, anyway!)
ESPECIALLY ON “SHOP,” and god knows I love me some shop music.
that said, “King” is the biggest improvement and also my favorite track here
