Today I am... Powerful.

Last night, as I sat conversing with a few members of the Occupy Los Angeles movement, I was informed by one of them that I was "powerful". This was news to me, as I've never truly felt any measure of power in my life. In fact, "powerless" was always the word that felt more apropos.

What I was unable to say last night (as I was rather shocked and simply dismissed the idea) is that I am only powerful to that person only because they give me power. I have been of the mindset for some time now that power is not something we possess, it is something that is granted by others. Considering positions of power such as the Presidency or the head of a department in a business; those individuals reached their positions because others felt that they were able to conduct themselves in such a way that seemed appropriate for the job title.

Even in a tribal or prehistoric scenario, power wasn't something inherent, it was gained through a process, even if it wasn't exactly "civilized". The man with the deeper voice had a higher likelihood of obtaining more women as he had more testosterone, and testosterone is also the main cause for him to literally be more commanding, as others were more likely to hear him, thus follow his orders or submit to his questioning.

Social dynamics is complicated and I'd rather not get too heavy into it because my attention span sucks balls, and as I type this, I'm watching videos, checking e-mail, etc., all because I am unable to maintain proper focus.
