'Drink up, boys' says Roosters board

A desperate Sydney Roosters board is set to trial a controversial “open-bar policy” in efforts to curb a spate of alcohol-related curfew breaches. The move represents a dramatic volte-face after the club originally signaled it would stand down Todd Carney, Nate Myles and Frank-Paul Nu'uausala for breaking a new alcohol policy. The board has since shelved all punishments and is now introducing the unorthodox policy which will in fact encourage players to drink up. The policy sees the Roosters teaming up with the Coogee Bay Hotel; the famous pub is in desperate need of clientele after the unsavoury “poo ice cream” incident in 2008. The move will allow all contracted Roosters to enjoy unlimited open bar access, 24/7; any players who refuse to take part in the policy will be asked to immediately leave the club. Meanwhile, league legend Tommy Raudonikis publicly backed the strategy at a doorstop this morning, adding that “it just makes sense.” “When I was a young lad, my old man caught me smoking a dart,” he confessed. “And instead of taking the pack away, Dad made me smoke every last one of those bloody Winnie Blues.” “And look at me now,” he added, in between coughing fits.
