HAPPY LATE VALENTINE’S EVERYONE!!! I meant to post this the day of but you know how it is. This one goes out to all my Taiju girlies, sorry I have been lacking on content for him. Please accept this as a token of my love to you and a sign that I miss him dearly.
This isn’t technically linked to There’s Just No One Like You, but I did write it in the same vein, so it can be considered a little bonus chapter of sorts. He’s not as much of a butthead in this-I wanted to mess around with a sweeter, more bashful Taiju. :3
Enjoy and as always, thank you thank you thank you!!!
WARNINGS: possessive behavior, Taiju makes you cry exactly one tear, some miscommunication but not a lot because I hate it and it’s my least favorite trope, Koko flirting with you even though he knows you are a spoken for woman, mentions of sexy stuff but nothing overly saucy, heavy petting.
“Happy Valentine’s day Taiju!”
Excitement laced your voice as you approached the man in question, a huge smile on your face as you brandished his present, eager to see his response.
However, the initial giddiness you felt was quick to dissipate when you noticed the resentful expression that had settled on his face. Taiju eyed the gift box that lay in your outstretched hands as if it were full of insects, the home made chocolates you had spent all morning slaving over met with a look of revulsion. His piercing gaze drilled holes through the cutely wrapped box of treats you enthusiastically presented to him, his animosity palpable the longer he stared.
A thin layer of sweat began to coat the back of your neck as he continued to turn his nose at the box, his unamused scowl unflinching as he gawked at the gift in complete silence. You swallowed, shifting your feet where you stood. A blush crept to your cheeks as the seconds crawled by, his lack of verbal response making the atmosphere oppressively awkward.
“… Chocolate?”
The word sounded as disgusted as his expression looked, and you flinched when his sharp eyes directed themselves your way.
“Y-yeah,” you stuttered, tightening your grip on the box, “I made them for you this morning. I was going to make them last night but I ran out of time…” You looked down at the misshapen lumps in the box, suddenly feeling very self-conscious. “Um, I know they aren’t the prettiest, I kind of rushed to make sure they would be done in time… They still taste pretty good though.”
It was true that the presentation was a bit lackluster, the simple red box that housed the chocolate was just something you had lying around and you didn’t have any molds or fun sprinkles to turn the candies into cute shapes or otherwise decorate them. The time constraint didn’t give much oppurtinty to focus on the aesthetics of your gift, so to make up for that you made sure the taste would be incredible. You typically weren’t one to brag, but when they cooled enough to taste you were impressed by your hard work, truly proud of them despite how wonky they appeared.
But looking at Taiju’s sneering face scrutinizing your creation made any feeling of accomplishment wither away and die. A nervous pit expanded in your stomach, dread overtaking the joy you felt in gifting them to Taiju. Maybe he didn’t like chocolate? You knew he wasn’t super huge on sweets, but you figured gifting him something traditional, something made from the heart, would at least garner a smile or a thank you.
You felt like an imbecile as he snatched the box from your hand, huffing as he turned on his heel.
“I’ll see you tonight,” he called over his shoulder, “wait for me.”
A deep frown settled on your lips, your eyes following him as the distance between you grew. Eventually he was entirely gone, his exit causing a single tear to slide down your cheek. You were quick to wipe it away, sniffling as you attempted to compose yourself.
You’d just have to try harder next year.
~
“There she is!”
The unmistakable voice of Kokonoi rang out behind you, causing you to sigh in annoyance. The day was half over and you considered yourself lucky to not have been bothered by him up until now. You had hoped your luck would continue through the whole day, saving you from his smart comments or weird insinuations. But that seemed to be too much to wish for on a day you were already struggling to get through, so here he was to add another trial to your trying holiday.
And you were just starting to feel better, too.
You turned around to greet him, but shot him a puzzled look as soon as you locked eyes with him. He stood before you, hands cupped in front of him as they reached out towards you, posed like he was looking for some kind of handout.
“Well?”
His question only confused you further, your brows furrowing as you cocked your head to the side. He sighed in frustration at the gesture, slumping his shoulders in mock dramatics. Your ignorance had apparently deeply wounded him.
“And here I thought you had made enough chocolate for all of us,” he shrugged, shooting you a teasing look, “Guess I was mistaken.”
“Chocolate…,” Confusion still permeated your features as you spoke to Koko, “What are you talking about?”
It was his turn to look puzzled, “Yeah, your home made ones? The ones you gave to Taiju?”
Noting the look of realization dawning on your face, Koko continued.
“The boss hasn’t shut up about them all day. The way he’s been going on and on about them made it sound like you had toiled over them for days, becoming a veritable chocolate factory.”
A deep blush settled over your cheeks, “He… Wait… What?” You struggled to find the right words, thrown by the fact that Taiju had not only acknowledged the gift you thought he had hated, but was gloating to others about it.
Koko frowned, “Why are you looking at me like that, did you not make him chocolate? I doubt he would accept them from some other chick, and it seems like a lame thing to lie about.”
“No I made them it’s just,” you shook your head, trying to pull yourself back from the shock, “Is he really bragging about them? When I gave them to him he seemed less than thrilled.”
Koko gave a sharp laugh, “Maybe he was just trying to play it cool in front of you or something because trust me, he’s been borderline obnoxious with how much he’s been enjoying them,” Koko took a step towards you, leaning down so that he could look into your eyes, “Made me a little jealous, ya know? I was hoping maybe you had some left over for your old friend Koko~?”
Your face settled into an irritated expression, garnering another large sigh from the raven haired boy. “I guess not. Though it makes me sad, it’s probably for the best. Boss looked like he was damn near ready to kill one of the other guys when they jokingly asked for a taste. If I got my own directly from the source he’d probably kill me.”
He lowered himself even closer, causing you to take a step backwards to create some distance. A blush flitted across your cheeks at the proximity you shared, nervous that someone may walk by and misconstrue the scenario they saw before them.
“Though maybe someday I’ll get lucky,” his voice was low as he spoke, his eye contact unwavering as he held your uneasy gaze. He raised his hand to his mouth, placing his index finger across his lips, “if you ever feel like making me a batch in secret, I promise not to tell Taiju. I’d never turn down goodies from you, even if you were just using me as a taste tester for some other man.”
Koko gave you a knowing smirk, causing you to blush harder.
“Stop joking around,” you frowned, pushing past him to continue on your way, “I’m sure you’re not hurting for chocolate from girls today, Koko. Go bother one of them if you want something.”
He laughed once more, this time sounding slightly less jovial than previous.
“Guess you’re right. But still, offer stands if you ever need a sampler.”
~
You felt Taiju’s arm around you before you even sensed him.
Your body lurched, startled by his sudden appearance. Having been so engrossed in the show you were watching you didn’t hear him come through the door, nor did you notice him sneak up behind you.
“Did I scare you,” he smiled down at you, pressing a firm kiss to your head, “You need to pay better attention to your surroundings, what if I was some burglar come to haul you away?”
You gave him a wry smile, relishing the feeling of his closeness, “I wouldn’t be too worried for myself, but I would feel bad for the burglar. Once my boyfriend catches wind of my kidnapping, I don’t think it would end very well for the man trying to cart me away.”
You felt his chest rumble as he laughed. “True enough, but I wouldn’t be too happy with you either, letting some other man touch you so easily.” Goosebumps littered your arms as he placed a lingering kiss on your neck, “I’ll let it slide this time, but if you let me catch you like this again I’m going to have to punish you.”
Before you could comment further, Taiju lifted his left hand before you, revealing the vibrant bouquet he had been concealing. Your eyes widened at the colorful array of delicate pink roses and round white peonies beautifully clumped together, delicate baby’s breath placed along the edges as a lovely finishing touch. The flowers smelled as amazing as they looked and you happily accepted them, a smile illuminating your face.
“Thank you Taiju,” you exclaimed, taking a moment to bask in their beauty, “They are so pretty! I love them!”
He gave you another kiss on the head, “I’m glad you like them. I could have waited until white day, but I would have felt bad accepting such a great gift today without showing my appreciation in return.”
You turned back to him, a nonplussed look on your face. “You mean… You really did like the chocolates I made?”
It was his turn to shoot you a look, “Yeah? What man wouldn’t love their girl making them chocolates on Valentine’s Day?” You swore you saw a slight tinge to his cheeks as he lowered his head, nuzzling his nose into the crook of your neck before he spoke again, “It was cute as hell. And besides, they taste amazing.”
You placed your hand to your chest, breathing a small sigh of relief. “I’m so glad to hear that, I’ve been worrying about it all day.”
“Worrying?”
“Yeah,” you huffed, “You seemed so mad when I gave them too you! You had this look on your face like you were grossed out the moment you laid eyes on them.”
“Idiot,” he mumbled against your skin, “You completely misunderstood. I was pissed off because you spent the whole morning away from me. I had a Black Dragons meeting for most of the day so I was worried I wouldn’t get to see you, on Valentine’s no less.”
He sighed, detaching himself from you slightly, “Then I found out you were doing some adorable shit like making me homemade chocolate and I didn’t know how to react. I was still mad you weren’t by my side, but…”
You cocked an eyebrow at him, “But?”
He sighed again, scratching the back of his head in vexation. “I was also really happy. No one has ever made me chocolates before and I never really cared too much about receiving them from anyone previously. But getting them from you today, knowing that you made them with your own two hands…” His blush returned, this time much more noticeably, “I don’t know, it was exciting I guess.”
You laughed, enamored by the rare bashful expression plastered on Taiju’s face. “Good to know after all this time together I can still excite you with such a small surprise.” You nudged him gently, garnering an almost sheepish sounding grunt from him in response.
“You know you could have chocolates all the time if you wanted, all you have to do is ask.” You mused for a second, before adding “Well, only if you promise not to look at me like I am some kind of gross bug again when I hand them to you.”
He smirked, taking the flowers from your hands to place them on the table beside you. You remained fixated on him as he walked around the couch, gasping as he pushed you back against the soft cushions. Before you could question his motives, he crawled atop you, latching his mouth to yours in a searing, needy kiss.
“Getting a little ahead of yourself, aren’t you?” His voice was husky as he broke the kiss, “You should know by now if I want something I won’t ask, I’ll just take it.”
He crashed back into you, working his mouth against yours with increasing ferocity. You whined as one of his hands gripped your thigh, the other snaking its way up your shirt to fondle your chest. His tongue slid inside your mouth, moving against yours as he groped you, your body growing hot each place he connected with you.
He caught your bottom lip between his teeth, gently biting down as he pulled away, licking the taste of you from his lips when he disconnected. Staring down at you with a lust crazed look in his eye you felt your sanity begin to waver, a shiver of anticipation coursing through your body over what was to come. Noting this, Taiju smiled, baring his teeth in an animalistic grin.
“And right now, I want something much sweeter than chocolate,” he rasped, pressing himself ever closer, “I’m gonna take all of you, and I will give you all of me in return.”
He kissed you once more, this one decidedly sweeter despite the desire that hung heavy in the air.
“Happy Valentine’s sweetheart, let’s make it one neither of us will forget.”
↳ in which you’re certain that the younger haitani brother hates you, but it’s actually the complete opposite
note: reblogs and comments are always appreciated
If there was one person in Tenjiku who scared you the most, it undoubtedly would have to be Haitani Rindou. While Izana and the other executives in his gang were apathetic toward you at best and overly flirtatious at worst, the younger Haitani made it known that he didn’t like you. Whenever you would visit Izana with some new information regarding the various gangs around Yokohama, Rindou would somehow always be there to greet you with a look of disdain.
Today he appeared to be particularly annoyed with you, as you had noticed him standing next to his brother before pointedly glaring at you the moment you stepped into his line of sight. Acknowledging the two of them with a polite, nervous smile, you did your best to ignore the pretty violet eyes that followed your every move as you hastily proceeded to your meeting with Tenjiku’s leader.
“You should just tell her, Rindou,” Ran amusedly whispered to his brother, causing the younger Haitani to dramatically blush before punching Ran in the arm for teasing him.
After speaking with Izana and securing your usual envelope of money, you were on your way to the front doors of the building when you were unexpectedly stopped by two Tenjiku members. You assumed that they were new, considering how most people were familiar with you and your role as Tenjiku’s trusted informant.
“Why the fuck is there a girl in our base?” the first one remarked incredulously.
“Are you a spy or something?” the second one questioned.
Approaching you with matching looks of suspicion, you had no time to even defend yourself as one of them made an attempt to grab your arm, only to freeze when he saw the hand that was painfully locked around his wrist.
“She’s with us,” Ran explained with an unimpressed frown. And that simple statement was more than enough to shock the two delinquents into realizing their mistake, as they were soon apologizing to you before running away in a panic.
Watching them leave, you almost didn’t hear Rindou’s question as he quietly asked if you were okay. The expression on his face was one of apparent concern as he scanned your form for injuries, and you had almost believed for an instant that he genuinely cared about you. However, you quickly convinced yourself otherwise, concluding that he was only worried because of his boss’s possible reaction to you getting hurt.
“I’m fine,” you said with a halfhearted smile. “Sorry to be such a bother.”
“You’re not a bother,” he awkwardly reassured you, looking suddenly anxious as he avoided your gaze. “I-i-if you want, I-I could start accompanying you on your visits to meet with Izana?”
“Why?” you immediately retorted, feeling confused and honestly doubtful of Rindou’s uncharacteristically kind proposal to help you. What kind of game was he playing right now? “I thought you hated me?”
“W-what?! I-I don’t hate you! Where the hell did you hear that from?!” he panickingly responded, shooting his brother a flustered glance as the older Haitani broke out into loud, insufferable laughter.
“W-well, you’re always frowning and glaring at me,” you reluctantly clarified. “I-I assumed that it was because you hated me.”
“I-I-I didn’t mean to—t-that was just—fuck!”
Blinking in confusion, you could only stare as Rindou disheartedly stormed off in defeat, a clear and harsh blush painting his features as he hysterically screamed something about your stupid, pretty face and how he had no chance now. You didn’t really know what he had meant by those comments, but you were happy that he wasn’t directing his current anger toward you.
“Eighteen years old, and he can’t even properly talk to his own crush,” Ran melancholically mused. “He really is hopeless.”
With a conspiratorial wink sent in your direction, Ran playfully wished you goodbye before following after his brother, leaving you completely shocked and speechless in response to his confession. This entire time, you had been misunderstanding your relationship with Rindou? He didn’t actually hate you? He liked you? For the first time in your career as an informant, you didn’t know how to deal with this given information.
summary — rindou wakes up to find you, his pregnant wife, gone
note — pregnancy. i love the idea of ran and rindou’s wife being best friends. rindou would absolutely hate it. likes and reblogs are always appreciated
Sleepily reaching across the bed, Rindou awoke in confusion as he was met with nothing but cold bed sheets. Glancing around the room, it was clear that you were nowhere in sight, leaving your husband confused in regard to where you could be at one in the morning. The house was too quiet, uncharacteristic of how it would usually be if you were actually home, especially in your condition at six months pregnant.
Hastily throwing aside the blanket and covers, Rindou hurried downstairs in the hopes of possibly finding you in the kitchen or living room, all while trying to convince himself that everything would be fine. When you were still nowhere to be seen, Rindou was certain that he was one step away from a panic attack when the sound of the front door and your voice immediately refocused his attention. He was about to hurry over and question you for making him worry when another voice suddenly spoke up, causing Rindou to freeze as he listened to your conversation.
“Ran,” you addressed worryingly. “We can’t keep doing this.”
“Oh really?” his brother replied in amusement, and Rindou could practically see the smirk on his older brother’s face. “That’s not what you said last night. Or last week. Or even the week before that.”
“I know, but I’m scared that Rin will find out,” you said nervously as the two of you removed your jackets and switched to a pair of indoor slippers.
“Don’t worry,” Ran calmly reassured you. “What Rindou doesn’t know won’t hurt him. It’ll be our little secret.”
Listening to you and Ran talk, an angry expression began to distort Rindou’s handsome face. He couldn’t believe what he was hearing. The implications of your words were heartbreaking, and he didn’t want to think that what you were saying was true. Were you really cheating on him with Ran? No, impossible. Rindou loved and trusted you, and he was quick to remind himself that you would never cheat on him. However, there was only one way for him to get a proper answer, so steeling his resolve, Rindou stepped out from the shadows.
“What the hell’s going on here?” Rindou asked with a glare, though the sight that greeted him left him more confused than angry.
There you stood with a bag of fast food in hand, a clear look of surprise on your face, as you weren’t expecting your husband to be awake at this time. Standing next to you was Ran, a cup of ice-cream in his own hand as he responded to Rindou with only an annoying smirk. A moment of silence passed, and you and Ran still refused to say anything.
“Explain,” Rindou demanded once more, his patience wavering as you placed an anxious hand on your round stomach while continuing to stand there in silence.
Ran was the first to speak, throwing a comforting arm around your shoulder before pulling you closer to him, a move that had Rindou frowning in slight jealousy. “Oh, you know. Just driving my favourite sister-in-law to get some chicken nuggets.”
His brother’s words had Rindou furrowing his eyebrows in confusion and staring at the both of you incredulously. While he was worried and panicking at home, fearful for you and the baby’s safety, you and Ran were driving around the city and getting fast food? Rindou couldn’t believe it, and he made sure to express this sentiment.
“Are you fucking serious? Do you know how worried I was to see that my pregnant wife was gone from our bed, only to find out that she was driving around at one in the morning for some fast food?! And you!” Rindou proclaimed angrily, turning his attention to Ran. “You’re thirty-one years old! Why did you go along with this?!”
Ran’s answer was simple. “I wanted some ice-cream.”
Before Rindou had time to reach over and strangle his brother, your voice quietly interrupted, and you began to tear up. “I-I’m sorry, Rin. I know I should’ve told you, b-but I was really craving some fast food. You’ve been really strict lately about me eating healthy for the baby, so I knew you wouldn’t have allowed it, but I-I just wanted chicken nuggets, okay?!”
Your husband was left shocked and speechless as you began to cry, a result of all the stress and emotions of your pregnancy. He couldn’t help but wince as Ran shot him a look of disapproval before carefully guiding you to the dining room, leaving Rindou to hesitantly follow the two of you in somber regret. Even after some reassuring words from Ran and being seated, your tears wouldn’t stop, and Rindou felt absolutely awful. He hated seeing you cry.
With a shaky sigh, Rindou gently reached for your hand and offered a slight smile. “I’m sorry. Do you want me to get a plate for your chicken nuggets, love?”
“Yes, please,” you replied with a slight smile of your own, something that Rindou was grateful for. “A-and some marshmallows and chocolate syrup.”
“All right.”
After getting what you wanted from the kitchen, Rindou could only watch in silent horror as you plated the chicken nuggets before covering them with plenty of marshmallows, chocolate syrup, and ketchup from your takeout bag. A sickly expression was painted on his face, but seeing how happy you were, he chose to not say anything. After another moment of silence, Rindou sighed before placing a loving kiss against the side of your face as a sign of apology.
“I’m really sorry for shouting at you,” he began sadly, his voice lowering to a whisper. “I-I was just really scared. When I saw that you were gone, I was so afraid. I was ready to tear apart Tokyo just to find you. I love you and our baby, so next time, please just wake me up when you’re having another random pregnancy craving.”
“I know. I’m sorry, too,” you said with a light giggle. “I promise I won’t do it again. I love you, Rin.”
“I love you, too,” Rindou mumbled, leaning down for a kiss.
“Okay, but can you guys stop being all romantic in front of me?” Ran scoffed from his seat beside you, completely forgotten until now. “Not all of us are happily married.”
summary — in which sanzu and ran have to deal with rindou, his relationship problems, and alcohol
note — spoilers, alcohol, intoxication. likes and reblogs are always appreciated
“So, like, what happened?” Sanzu questioned curiously as he watched the younger Haitani finish his eighth liquor glass of the night, the loud music and bright neon lights of the nightclub only further adding to his intoxicated and volatile state.
After all, for a married man like Rindou, he should’ve been at home with you, his wife, not drinking himself to death in one of Roppongi’s famed nightclubs at one in the morning. Yet here he was, looking pathetic as he poured himself some more alcohol in a useless attempt to forget about how much he missed you. It was a truly pathetic sight, one that brought Sanzu much happiness and great sadistic joy.
“It’s stupid,” Rindou proclaimed in annoyance, his gaze unfocused as he leaned back in his seat with a sigh. “She got angry at me for getting too close to Yukie again. It’s not my fault I had to look over her shoulder to read the damn report. Everyone knows I have terrible eyesight!”
“Yukie?” Sanzu repeated with a now amused, almost mocking smirk. He knew that you and Rindou had gotten into a fight today, but he didn’t know that it involved your husband’s hot secretary. “You mean the same Yukie that’s been trying to sleep with you ever since she started working for us? That Yukie? Yikes. No wonder your wife’s not talking to you.”
Rindou replied with a scoff, reaching for his glass of liquor and failing as he began to see doubles. “I don’t see why she’s blaming me, though. I don’t even like Yukie. I find her more annoying than anything.”
“Okay, but did you tell your wife this? That you aren’t interested in Yukie and find her annoying?” Sanzu challenged as he watched Rindou continue to struggle.
“No?” the younger Hiataini answered with a confused blink. “I mean, I thought it was obvious.”
Sanzu placed his drink down for a second in disbelief, not knowing if he should laugh or cry after hearing his colleague’s idiotic statement. He eventually chose to say nothing and simply casted a judgemental gaze in Rindou’s direction, causing the other man to stare back at him with unwavering eyes of confusion, unable to see the problem with his lackadaisical answer.
“Damn, how are you married again?” Sanzu asked mockingly, taking another sip of his drink. He honestly needed it after listening to the younger Haitani complain about his love life for the past hour. “You know, if you keep acting like this, your wife might leave you for your brother or something.”
And for the first time in his life, Sanzu promptly regretted his careless teasing and inconsiderate remarks, as he could do nothing but watch in shock and slight horror as Rindou’s eyes began to tear up, his lilac hair falling over his flustered face as he desperately tried to retake control his alcohol-stricken emotions. After years of seeing Rindou get injured, stabbed, and shot, it was the thought of you leaving him that finally broke the Bonten executive and had him practically breaking down. At that moment, Sanzu contemplated ordering another drink, preferably something much stronger than what he was having now.
“Calm down,” Sanzu tiredly advised. “I was just-”
“Why is he crying?” a new voice interrupted, making Sanzu curse under his breath as Ran turned to him with a harsh glare.
“I didn’t do anything,” Sanzu defended, but they both clearly knew that he was lying.
“Yeah, sure,” Ran dismissively replied as he took a seat next to his brother, forcing a glass of water into Rindou’s hand as he took note of his brother’s condition. “Rindou, drink some water. You’re clearly wasted.”
Nodding his head absentmindedly, the younger Haitani quietly took a few sips of water before nervously glancing at Ran, his expression pulled into a frown once more as he remembered Sanzu’s taunting words. “Nii-san?”
Surprise immediately appeared on Ran’s face, and he couldn’t help but give his brother a rather curious look. He hadn’t been called that since elementary school when Rindou had sorrowfully asked for his help after some classmate decided to steal his brother’s glasses as a cruel prank. It didn’t take long before the poor bastard and the rest of the school learned to fear the Haitani name, especially when it came to the older Haitani. However, ever since that day, Rindou had stopped addressing him by that specific title, wanting to be seen as Ran’s equal, rather than a weak and defenceless younger sibling.
“This must be important, then,” Ran mused, choosing to humour his brother with a charming smile. “Yes, Rindou? What is it?”
“Don’t steal my wife from me, okay?” Rindou demanded with a tearful glare, an arm quickly shooting out from his side and almost hitting Sanzu in the process as he indignantly pointed at Ran’s face. “You can’t have her. She’s the one thing in my life that’s completely mine, so I’m not letting her go!”
“She’s her own person, Rindou. You can’t just say that,” Ran reprimanded with a chuckle, finding it cute how infatuated his brother was with you, only for Rindou to constantly struggle to make these feelings known. “What if she wants to leave?”
“T-then I’ll fight for her,” Rindou quickly answered, his eyes shining with tears again at the thought of this heartbreaking possibility. Sanzu, however, looked as if he was completely done with this conversation. “I-I’ll love her and cherish her so that she’ll never want to leave me.”
“Isn’t that why you guys are fighting now, though? Because you don’t tell her how much you love and cherish her?” Ran countered with a meaningful look. “Rindou, you need to be more honest with your feelings. I know it’s obvious to you how much you love her, but when you do nothing to stop Yukie’s flirtatious behaviour, it just shows that you don’t care about your wife’s feelings. Do you understand why she’s angry at you now?”
“How do I make it up to her?” Rindou asked somberly.
“Just talk to her. Relationships are all about communication,” Ran explained before gesturing for Rindou to drink more water. However, the younger Haitani promptly ignored this request and chose to focus on his brother’s advice of talking to you, immediately calling your number before anyone could actually stop him.
“I’ll talk to her right now! Hi, wifey! How is the love of my life doing?” Rindou greeted affectionately before he furrowed his eyebrows and pouted. “No, I’m not drunk. Yes, I know it’s late—wait, wait, hold on! I have something important to tell you! I, um, I love you. I’m sorry that I don’t tell you this more often, and I’m sorry that I never bothered to tell Yukie off. I didn’t think I needed to because it was obvious how hopelessly in love I am with you, b-but if you don’t like her, I can chop her up into fish food—no? All right. Um, do you think that you could possibly forgive me? I-I miss you. You do?! Yeah, he’s with me. Okay, I’ll see you soon. Bye. Love you, too.”
It only took a second before a bright, lovestruck smile appeared across Rindou’s face, his first smile of the night after hours of nothing but gloominess and sulking. Sanzu simply scoffed in response to this before glancing away to check his phone, while Ran chuckled in happiness for his brother. You and Rindou truly were an adorable couple.
“Let me guess? I have to drive you home?” Ran asked knowingly, immediately getting his answer when Rindou failed to even properly stand with all the alcohol currently in his body. With a tired sigh, the older Haitani threw Rindou’s arm around his shoulders before guiding him toward the club’s doors, turning to Sanzu to say his goodbyes for the night. “I’ll see you tomorrow. Have them put the drinks on my tab.”
“Whatever,” Sanzu acknowledged, his eyes never once leaving his phone as he finished the remainder of his drink.
“Nii-san, I think I’m going to be sick,” Rindou mumbled as the two of them left the noisy and crowded nightclub. Only once they were gone did Sanzu finally feel a sense of peace and quietness for the first time that night.
“Well then,” Sanzu remarked as ended his secret phone recording, smirking in full as he replayed the last five minutes of what had just happened. Rindou’s romantic confessions to you were sickeningly sick and honestly painful to watch. He knew that the younger Haitani would be more than embarrassed if anyone was to see this recording, so it would be a shame if it somehow made its way to the Bonten group chat. “Oh no, me and my silly clumsiness.”
summary — you and your husband try to keep your careers separate, but it sometimes can’t be helped that ran brings his work home
note — spoilers, blood. ran, rindou, and sanzu are not bonten’s clowns, they are the entire circus. likes and reblogs are always appreciated
“What do you guys think? Is this enough rice?” you asked, glancing at the chat as thousands of your subscribers and viewers sent in varying responses.
Yes, that looks good
Could use some more
You’re looking really pretty today!!
That’s enough rice imo
“All right, I think this should be fine,” you conceded after reading a few of the replies, animatedly commentating as you moved on to the next component of your husband’s lunch for tomorrow.
After a few minutes of meticulously arranging the various ingredients and side dishes, the bento box in front of you looked like a professional food advertisement with how it was so artfully presented. You couldn’t help but giggle as you read the many supportive comments that complimented you on your work, so you made sure to reciprocate your viewers’ kind words by thanking them.
When you first started your channel, it was just a hobby, with you posting a few tutorial videos on how you would cook and prepare your husband’s lunch every day for work. Ran had always loved your cooking and elaborate bento boxes, so he thought it’d be a charming idea for you to start your own YouTube channel. You didn’t think anyone would notice you, yet you somehow recently found yourself at ten thousand subscribers.
It was kind of funny, you thought. Married to a Bonten executive, your life was surrounded with money and luxury, but it was the random comments that thanked you for inspiring a viewer to start cooking or mentioned how your videos helped reduce their anxiety that really made you smile. What began as a simple hobby was now your career and passion.
“And that’s that for Ran’s lunch!” you cheered, putting the bento away in the refrigerator. “I think we still have time to cook dinner before he gets home, so what should we make? Oh, I’ll make a poll and let you guys decide!”
Another 1-2 hours of stream?? Bless
Will we finally get to see your husband today?
Husband face reveal when? No pressure though!
Cook anything you want my queen!!!
“I don’t know, guys. Ran’s not comfortable in front of the camera,” you explained with an apologetic smile, choosing not to mention that your husband was also a wanted man and a member of Japan’s most dangerous criminal organization.
And yet, despite never appearing on screen, Ran always did his best to make his presence known to your viewers and subscribers, much to your amusement and annoyance. He was that distant voice in the background of many of your videos, the tattooed arm that would sometimes pull you to the side and teasingly kiss you when you were live streaming. Despite never being on camera, your enigmatic husband was extremely well-liked and adored by your fans. However, even if your subscribers were curious to meet him, you knew that it was best if Ran remained a mystery.
Smiling at the camera, you were about to start cooking some gyudon for dinner, which had won the poll, when the front door was violently kicked open as two familiar figures hurriedly helped a screaming third figure into the living room.
“Those Kabukicho fuckers! I’ll kill them! I’ll kill them all!” Sanzu shouted, his voice grating and blood colouring his hands, clothes, and the floors of your house.
“Stop moving, you’ll make your injuries worse,” Rindou mumbled, looking more annoyed than concerned for his possibly dying acquaintance and co-worker.
“And can you try not to make a mess?” Ran requested with a friendly, almost mocking smile. “This is my house, after all.”
“Well, I’m sorry I got shot! In the fucking abdomen!” Sanzu responded in absolute sarcasm, clutching his stomach in an effort to stop the bleeding.
The sight of the three men arguing in the living room had you staring at them in shock and horror as you tried not to let the look of complete panic show on your face. Glancing at the chat, you knew it was too late, as a wave of new comments started to ask what was happening and who the two additional voices were. You suddenly felt like crying in that moment, but you collected your emotions and steeled yourself, wanting to fix this problem as quickly as possible.
“Hi, guys!” you confidently greeted while putting on your best smile.
“Oh, love, I’m sorry,” Ran voiced apologetically, his eyes scanning over the camera and other expensive video equipment that clearly told him you were recording right now. “It was an emergency, and our house was closer than headquarters. You can edit this out later, right?”
“It’s live.”
Your sharp response had the three Bonten men immediately falling silent as they all stared at each other in fear and panic. No one said anything for a few seconds, yet it almost felt as if time had stopped. Rindou was the first one to speak as he harshly cursed under his breath, while Ran looked like he was going to murder Sanzu if the second-in-command didn’t die from his gunshot wound first.
“So, how was your airsoft match?” you asked casually, turning your attention to expertly cutting the vegetables needed for tonight’s dinner.
Ran initially appeared confused, his eyebrows furrowed in questioning. However, after being married to you for so long, he was quick to understand what you were trying to accomplish with your question. “It was good! We won. Poor Haru got shot, though. But he’ll be fine.”
“That’s good,” you said with an approving nod, almost sighing in relief when you saw that the chat had fallen for your story.
Wow, your husband plays airsoft?? That’s kinda hot ngl
I’ve always wanted to try airsoft, but it looks painful
Damn that’s pretty cool
Lool rip Haru
“We’re going to get ready for dinner now. Don’t worry, I’ll make sure to clean the floors, too. Call me if you need anything,” Ran said cheerfully as he and Rindou guided the hurt and bleeding Sanzu to the washroom where the first aid kit was stored.
“How did they do that?” Sanzu whispered conspiratorially to Rindou.
Your brother-in-law only sighed before replying with, “They have this weird couples’ telepathy thing. Don’t ask, I’ve been trying to figure it out for years.”
With the three men quietly leaving and the problem now resolved, you redirected your gaze to the camera and charmingly smiled once more. “Anyway, let’s get back to cooking, shall we?”
summary. ran is no stranger to getting love letters from adoring fans and admirers, only this time, the letter is addressed to you, his girlfriend
note. likes and reblogs are always appreciated
Haitani Ran was known as a heartbreaker to those who were acquainted with him or knew of his reputation. This was unsurprising, considering his attractive looks, charisma, and popularity and influence within Roppongi. And yet, despite his rather polite and unassuming smiles, it was apparent that Ran was a dangerous and terrifying man, which was why so many people were understandably shocked when it became known that the two of you were dating.
You were an ordinary university student, though one that had unknowingly managed to charm the infamous Haitani Ran like no other woman had before. You weren’t some feared female gang leader, and you also weren’t a famous model or idol. You were simply a beautiful and intelligent woman that had unexpectedly caught Ran’s attention after expertly shutting down his men’s awful attempts at flirting with you on that fateful summer afternoon. He could still remember your cute sundress and the heat that he had felt as you glared at him and his associates, and it was at that moment that Ran had fallen in love with you.
Rindou, meanwhile, didn’t think that Ran had a chance or that your relationship would even last, knowing his brother’s personality and lack of commitment when it came to women and relationships. However, as time went on, it became clear that Ran was being serious for once in his life, and it didn’t take long before the two of you were a couple. It was obvious to anyone that your boyfriend was completely infatuated with you, which was why he was so confused in regard to his current dilemma. Everyone knew that he was happily taken, as he often annoyingly made this fact known, yet here he was, placed into a scene so very reminiscent of a shoujo manga.
“A-are you Haitani Ran-san?”
It was the weekend, and the streets of Roppongi were busy with crowds of people socializing and walking about. The noisiness and bright neon lights of the many restaurants, nightclubs, and bars gave Roppongi its distinctive nightlife-feel, and Ran was once again looking forward to spending time with you in the place that he lovingly called home. He had hoped to take you to dinner at one of his favourite restaurants before heading to the movie theater and watching a movie with you for the rest of the night, though his plans would have to wait as he blankly stared at the young woman standing across from him.
“Depends. Who’s asking?” Ran replied as he absentmindedly twirled his braid. She was an unfamiliar face, timidly avoiding his eyes with a letter in hand, and Ran couldn’t help but lightly scoff in response to this, already knowing what she was about to say. After all, he and his brother were practically celebrities in Roppongi, so he was familiar with receiving frequent love letters from fans and admirers. Even after the two of you had started dating, the letter would not stop, much to your boyfriend’s total exasperation.
“H-Haitani-san,” the young woman began nervously as she lifted her eyes to shyly meet his gaze. “I-I know this is rather unexpected, but I was wondering if you could accept this letter and-”
“Not interested,” Ran cruelly dismissed with a wave of his hand. “I’m already taken.”
“W-what?”
“I’m already taken,” he repeated with an unimpressed raise of his eyebrow. “I have a girlfriend.”
And it would take less than a second before the young woman quickly realized what Ran was trying to tell her, immediate disdain painting her face as she proceeded to clarify what she had meant by her earlier request. “What? No, I don’t like you or anything. I just wanted to ask if you could give this letter to your girlfriend for me.”
It was now Ran’s turn to be absolutely confused. “You want to confess to my girlfriend?”
“N-no! It’s a letter thanking her for saving me the other day!” the young woman corrected with a flustered snap, soon answering Ran’s curious look with the following story of what happened. “I-I was on my way home from work yesterday when this group of guys approached me and refused to leave me alone. Your girlfriend showed up and saved me, so I wanted to properly thank her with this letter. Those guys had said something about her being Haitani Ran’s girl before running away, s-so I asked around and found you.”
“Oh,” was Ran’s sophisticated response before trying to process everything. However, he soon found himself only able to silently compliment this woman for rightly recognizing your charm and brilliance, so with an eventual nod of his head, Ran wordlessly agreed to her prior request of giving you the letter.
“Thanks,” she said with a sigh of relief, passing over the letter with a low chuckle. “I still can’t believe that you thought I was confessing to you for a second there, Haitani-san.”
“What’s that supposed to mean?” Ran immediately asked, suddenly taken aback by her comment. Was she trying to imply something?
“No offence, but you’re kind of,” she said nothing more as her eyes quickly scanned over Ran with subtle judgement and contempt. “Anyway, thanks again for doing this for me!”
“I-I’ll have you know that she asked me out!” Ran hastily argued as he watched her walk away, but they both knew that he was obviously lying. And so, throwing one last, defeated glare in her direction, Ran turned his attention to the letter in his hand with a sigh. Less than a minute, and he was already regretting his decision of being nice to someone other than you and his brother.
“Ran, is everything okay?” your lovely voice interrupted, surprising your boyfriend as you appeared next to him looking as beautiful as always. Seeing your pretty face, Ran had almost forgotten why he was even annoyed to begin with. Almost.
“I’m fine,” he replied before handing over a meticulously decorated letter. “Here. For you.”
“Who’s this from?” you asked in confusion.
“Your secret admirer,” he said with an indignant huff. “Made me give it to you.”
“I see,” you plainly remarked before opening the letter to read it.
Your lack of an immediate reaction had Ran instantly feeling anxious, not knowing how to respond as he watched you carefully read over the letter in contemplative silence. It was only after he had noticed the subtle smile on your face did he really begin to panic, wanting nothing more in that moment than to know what was written on that piece of paper to make you, his girlfriend, smile so beautifully.
“So, what does it say?” Ran asked casually as he wrapped an arm around your waist in an attempt to glance over your shoulder.
“Don’t worry about it,” you said with a placating kiss to his cheek, closing the letter and securely placing it into your bag before your jealous boyfriend could discern anything that was written. “It was very sweet, though. I wish I could’ve seen her again in person to thank her for the letter. Ran, if you ever see her, tell her that I said thank you.”
Your boyfriend was most certainly not going to be telling that woman any of this, yet he still smiled and nodded in fake agreement and cheerfulness as he began to guide you toward the direction of the restaurant where he had made reservations for dinner. Appreciating your cute, thankful smile, the memories of tonight’s earlier events were soon forgotten as Ran directed his focus and attention toward you and this date. That was until a scary realization made itself known to him. Did he just make a new rival? And for a quick instance, all Ran could think about was how he truly and sincerely hated these damn love letters.

haitani ran
despite being raised by your brothers, you were the complete opposite of ran and rindou
you were kind, intelligent, polite, but certainly not any less charming, which was why ran found it so difficult to understand what your homeroom teacher had just told him
the second ran ended his phone call, he immediately informed everyone that they would be making a quick stop before attending today’s meeting
he was instantly met with a variety of different reactions, with some curious, others confused, and koko arguing that they would be late because of him
despite this, their car soon arrived in front of a school, causing most of the executives to stare at ran incredulously with the unspoken question of what he could possibly need at a high school
“i’m picking up my sister,” he casually explained before telling rindou to accompany him. “we’ll be back in ten minutes”
once he and rindou were gone, sanzu was the first person to speak, voicing everyone’s immediate thought as he loudly screamed, “there’s a third haitani?!”
eventually, your brothers were shown to the room where you, a male student, and an older woman were all currently sitting, and your homeroom teacher could only sigh before he went on to tell ran about how you had gotten into a fight with your schoolmate earlier this morning
“i was defending myself and my friend,” you tried to explain. “he wouldn’t leave us alone, and when we tried to walk away, he got angry and-”
“lies! my daiki would never do such a thing!” the older woman snapped as she glared at you contemptuously
“now, now,” ran said as he attempted to placate this woman, effectively using his charms against her as he began to discuss how they could possibly resolve this problem
watching her fall for ran’s expert manipulation, you turned your attention to your other brother as he sent you a curious look
haitani rindou
“did you win?” rindou asked, teasingly using the top of your head as an armrest
“yeah. i got him into that joint lock you taught me, but he gave up before i could even do anything,” you replied with a slight chuckle
humming in acknowledgement, rindou shifted his gaze from you to your schoolmate, quickly bringing his thumb across his neck in a threatening manner the moment daiki decided to lift his eyes and glance around the room
your schoolmate’s eyes hastily shot back to the floor after this silent confrontation, and rindou couldn’t help but smirk before offering you his congratulations
“good job. i’m proud of you,” he said with absolute sincerity in his voice
“all right, let’s go you two,” ran suddenly announced, apparently having finished with his conversation as he turned to address you. “so, you’re not in trouble, but we all agreed that you both should go home for the rest of the day. also, the two of you aren’t allowed to be near each other anymore”
“that’s a win in my book,” rindou whispered to you, making you laugh quietly
with an understanding and appreciative smile, you and your brothers got ready to leave when your homeroom teacher suddenly asked rindou a question
“by the way, have i seen you from somewhere before? like the news, perhaps?” he suggested as rindou subtly tried to cover his bonten tattoo. “oh, i know! you look like one of those pop idols my daughters are so obsessed with!”
trying not to laugh, you said your goodbyes to your homeroom teacher as rindou glared at the older man while looking beyond insulted
“i suddenly hate myself,” your brother stated as the three of you made your way to where their car was parked
bonten
when they had noticed you and your brothers approaching, many of the bonten executives prepared themselves for the spoiled brat that would undoubtedly be the youngest haitani sibling
however, to their surprise, the second you stepped into the car, you offered everyone a polite smile before introducing yourself and adding, “thank you for taking care of my brothers. i know how troublesome they can be at times”
“i like her!” sanzu excitedly remarked after a collective moment of shocked silence, and everyone would agree, as you soon got a tupperware of homemade cookies from your school bag and asked if anyone wanted a snack
your brothers were the first ones to move, both absentmindedly taking a cookie as they scanned over their notes, with mikey being the next person to unexpectedly accept your kind offer
“they’re good,” he eventually concluded, reminiscent of his own sister’s baking as he turned away to continue watching the passing scenery
seeing their leader’s approval, a few of the executives soon copied his action, and a wave of compliments was suddenly being sent in your direction
koko, though, couldn’t be bothered to humour you as he repeatedly glanced at the time, ready to blame you and your brothers if bonten happened to be late to their meeting today
“excuse me, sir. you have your calculations wrong there,” your voice rang out from koko’s left, making him scoff as you gestured to the excel file on his laptop screen
“you don’t know what you’re talking about—wait. how the hell did i not notice that?” koko cursed as he corrected this mistake, and his eyebrows furrowed in reluctant appreciation as he turned to look at you. “thanks, i guess”
“so, why’d your brothers have to pick you up from school, kid?” takeomi asked a while later, speaking for everyone as they all curiously wondered the same question
“i joint locked a schoolmate and almost broke his arm,” you said with a sweet smile
“damn. you remind of sen-”
however, takeomi was unable to say another word, quietly opening the car window before he proceeded to light a cigarette with a subtly pained expression on his face
mochi quickly choose to speak up next, wanting to distract everyone from the now overwhelming and awkward silence of the car, so he began to recount a funny story from his time in juvie
“i’ll never forget the first time i met ran,” he started. “we had just been assigned our cells and given our uniforms, and i was waiting in line to get my hair shaved. juvie rules and all that. imagine my surprise when i saw roppongi’s infamous and feared haitani ran crying his eyes out as three guards struggled to cut off his fashionable braids”
“i remember that!” rindou shouted as he began to laugh hysterically
“i thought we agreed never to talk about that,” ran said with an unamused glare, leaving mochi to simply shrug his shoulders in indifference
“please, like you have any right to laugh, rindou,” sanzu interrupted as he spoke to you with a conspiratorial tone. “rindou here had arrived at the office in tears last week. he kept mumbling about how someone had gotten into a relationship, how no one would ever be good enough for this person, and how he’d kill anyone that broke their heart. i’m now almost certain that he was talking about you-”
blinking in surprise, you could only watch as said brother violently threw himself across the seats in an effort to permanently silence bonten’s second-in-command, as his hands were dangerously aimed for sanzu’s neck
“i’m not in a relationship, though,” you whispered to your oldest brother, who was sitting beside you
“i know,” ran whispered back in amusement
“what is wrong with you guys?! don’t fight in front of our guest!” kakucho reprimanded, successfully breaking rindou away from sanzu as the second-in-command tauntingly laughed in victory
“boss, we’re here,” the driver announced a second later, and with a single look, mikey ordered everyone to be silent and to meticulously gather their notes before exiting the car, now expertly playing his role as bonten’s leader
kakucho was the last person to leave, your brothers having been forced by koko to hastily say their goodbyes, as they were the first ones to speak in today’s meeting
glancing around the car to make sure that nothing had been forgotten, he couldn’t help but musingly tell you, “i don’t know how you deal with your brothers every day”
“well, if they ever annoy you too much, just remind them that i would be disappointed,” you advised with a saccharine smile. “that usually works”
“you’re kind of terrifying,” kakucho partially joked. “did you know that?
“i know,” you replied, making him chuckle as he ordered the driver to get you home safely, about to close the car door when you made a final request. “oh, please tell everyone thank you again for taking care of my brothers”
“we try our best,” kakucho reassured you

summary. after attempting to stop a break-in at his bike shop, shinichiro wakes up to find himself in an unfamiliar home with a wife and son that he does not have
note. spoilers, canon divergence. i’ll never wakui for not giving us more of shinichiro. i would absolutely love a prequel spinoff about him and the other first generation black dragons. likes and reblogs are always appreciated
The first thing Shinichiro noticed when he had woken up was the considerable pain radiating from the back of his head. The second thing was that he was no longer at his bike shop, apparently having gotten home somehow, as he now found himself lying on his living room couch. Though, it would be more appropriate to say that he was lying on someone’s living room couch, as the furniture around him failed to match that of his own apartment.
Holding his head in pain, Shinichiro continued to lie there in silence, not really wanting to deal with the pain of his head or the cloudiness of his memories. He could somewhat recall a break-in taking place at his shop earlier that night, but memories of this event were so distant and unclear. As he quietly waited for sleep to welcome him back, it was then that Shinichiro noticed the hauntingly similar-looking eyes that were staring at him, and he couldn’t help but be reminded of his own eyes.
“Papa, okay?” the young toddler before Shinichiro asked while staring up at him in concern.
“W-what? Kid, I’m not your dad,” Shinichiro managed to say through the midst of his pain and confusion. “I don’t even know who you are.”
However, this sharp and frigid answer only brought tears to the toddler’s eyes, as he was unable to understand his father’s sudden and inexplicable coldness and lack of affection. “P-papa forget Sen?”
Shinichiro’s response was immediate, instantly recognizing the familiar pout and teary eyes that his two younger siblings would also wear whenever they would start crying. “Wait, wait, wait! Don’t cry, please? I-I didn’t mean-”
“Shin, what’s wrong? Why does Senjiro look like he’s about to cry?”
“Mama! Papa forget Sen!”
And before Shinichiro could even defend himself, he was left absolutely speechless at the sight of the most beautiful woman that he had ever met. Any pain or discomfort that he had been previously feeling was immediately replaced with the thought of you and only you as you sent Shinichiro an amused smile before turning your attention to the pouty toddler in your arms.
“Oh, my little dorayaki, I’m sure your papa’s just tired,” you explained as you adoringly kissed both of Senjiro’s cheeks in an effort to placate the indignant child. “I mean, how can anyone forget such a cute face? Right, Shin?”
“R-right,” Shinichiro agreed as you soon appeared in front of him with a slight frown, a blush colouring his face as you placed a hand against his cheek and began to contemplatively stare at him. After a few seconds, Shinichiro was about to ask what was wrong when you surprised him with a quick kiss, one that had you giggling at his shy and flustered reaction.
“That’s the Shinichiro that I know,” you mused with a nod before proceeding to give him a sad and worried expression. “Shin, you really need to stop overworking yourself. It’s not good for your health. You should know this by now, my troublesome hubby.”
It took a second before Shinichiro actually registered what you had just said, and his eyes quickly shot over to your left hand where he found a beautiful wedding band, one that perfectly matched the band on his own left hand. He didn’t have time to properly process this before you cheerfully told him that dinner was ready, leaving him to silently follow after you as you made your way to the dining room table where plates of delicious food were waiting for him.
After placing Senjiro in his chair and bringing his hands together in a quiet offer of thanks, you and Shinichiro did the same before Shinichiro scanned the many wonderful dishes in front of him, not knowing where to start or if he was even hungry to begin with. Lifting his chopsticks, Shinichiro found himself glancing across the table to where you were feeding Senjiro a few spoonfuls of rice, the sight of which caused the older male to smile as he listened to Senjiro’s happy laughter while you lovingly praised him for eating his food. Admittedly, Shinichiro hadn’t had a home-cooked, family dinner in a while, too busy with work to visit home, so he couldn’t help but think that this was nice.
If his friends could see him now, Shinichiro was more than certain that they would be laughing at his stupid, infatuated grin. Shinichiro had always been a hopeless romantic at heart, so he often dreamed about finding the perfect woman and starting a family with her. Family had always been important to him, so to see you and Senjiro laughing together in happiness in front of him, Shinichiro couldn’t be any more content. Gazing at you and Senjiro, he couldn’t help but think that this was what his dream would look like.
“Shin, could you do something for me?” you suddenly asked your husband, breaking him away from his sentimental musings.
“Sure, what is it?”
“Could you wake up for me?”
“What?” Shinichiro remarked in confusion, not understanding your request.
“Manjiro and Emma are waiting for you, Shin,” you continued sadly. “Your grandpa is waiting for you, too. Everyone is waiting for you. You need to wake up.”
“I-I am awake, though!” he argued, but you just simply gave him a melancholic smile.
“You need to wake up, Shin. Senjiro and I, we’re also waiting for you, my love. We’ll be seeing you soon, all right?” you said as your voice began to sound more distorted and faint, the scene of the dining room table now becoming enveloped in a sudden, bright light.
Tiredly blinking his eyes in confusion, Shinichiro was disorientingly greeted to the sight of a plain, white hospital room. Mimicking the earlier events of his dream, it didn’t take long before Shinichiro’s head began to hurt once more, causing him to wince as he held his head in discomfort when someone said his name in curiosity.
“S-Shin-nii? Is that you? A-are you really awake?” Emma asked with slight hope in her voice, having noticed how his hand had moved. Seeing her eldest brother lazily smile in pain and confirmation, Emma couldn’t stop herself from crying in happiness. “M-Mikey! Mikey, wake up!”
“What? What is it?” said brother mumbled from the side of Shinichiro’s bed, his expression pulled into a sleepy frown after having been woken up by Emma’s loud shouting.
“Shin-nii’s awake, you idiot!” she explained emotionally, and that was all that was needed to be said before Mikey’s eyes instantly shot over to look at his tired yet conscious older brother. “W-wait right here, you two! I’m going to go get someone!”
Seeing Emma hastily run out of the room, Shinichiro wanted to tell her to be careful, but he was unable to because he was unexpectedly punched in the stomach by Mikey. “W-what was that for-”
“Stupid Shinichiro! How could you?!” Mikey screamed. “Everyone knows that you can’t fight, but you still try to stop a break-in all by yourself?! You almost died! Y-y-you almost left us!”
And like a match igniting a pool of gasoline, Mikey was unable to stop the crystalline tears that began to fall from his eyes, and Shinichiro was left not knowing what to say as Mikey proceeded to desperately hug him as if he would suddenly disappear before the younger Sano’s eyes. It was a truly sombering moment. And although Shinichiro’s memories were still partially unclear in regard to the referenced break-in, he chose not to mention it for now as he gently placed a hand on top of Mikey’s head.
“I’m sorry for scaring you and Emma like that,” Shinichiro mumbled. “Grandpa was probably worried, too, huh? I’m sorry, but I’m okay now, so don’t cry, Manjiro.”
“I’m not crying! Like I’d ever cry for you!”
“Can’t you just admit that you love me for once in your life?!”
“Oh, I see that you’re awake now,” a familiar voice interrupted, and Shinichiro felt his heart almost come to a stop as he watched you step into the room with a smiling Emma next to you. “How are you feeling, sir?”
“G-good. I’m all right,” Shinichiro stuttered nervously, and his two younger siblings couldn’t help but share an exasperated glance, already knowing what was about to happen. Five days in a coma, and the first thing that Shinichiro did was try to flirt with a pretty nurse.
“I’m happy to hear that!” you replied cheerfully, pressing a button on the side of Shinichiro’s hospital bed to allow him to sit up. “I’m just going to ask you a few questions. Is that all right?”
“Y-yeah, that’s totally fine!” Shinichiro answered as he quickly put on his best, charming smile. You, however, hadn’t noticed this at all, causing Mikey and Emma to quietly chuckle under their breaths.
“Well, you appear to be fine, but your face looks rather flushed,” you mused with a slight tilt of your head. “I’ll come back with a doctor just to make sure.”
“W-wait,” Shinichiro pleaded as pieces of his dream began to replay in his mind. Even if everything had been a dream, he could still clearly remember the sound of Senjiro’s adorable laughter and your saccharine smile as the three of you sat together around the dinner table. “H-have we met before?”
“No, I don’t think so,” you responded absentmindedly before politely introducing yourself. “It’s nice to meet you!”
“N-nice to meet you, too,” Shinichiro said with a lovestruck smile, watching you leave the room as he expertly ignored the teasing remarks that Mikey and Emma were now sending his way.
As Shinichiro leaned back against his hospital bed, he couldn’t help but wonder if meeting you, the literal woman of his dreams, was a sign of fate. He now wanted to get to know you and understand why you were the one that he had dreamed about. And despite his siblings’ constant teasing that you were too pretty and wouldn’t want to be bothered by someone like him, Shinichiro would be the one to have the last laugh four years later when the two of you were happily married and welcomed your adorable Senjiro to this world.
