Stars and Watchers (and the ones left behind)

Techno's favourite part of the day is the very end, it has been for as long as he can remember.

When he was young, his oldest brother would sneak him out onto the roof, and show him the stars. And even now, 8 years after he left, he goes up as often as he can, Grian always said the stars watched over those who told their stories, as much as he wants to believe it, he's not sure he can anymore.

Grian's departure had stung in ways he couldn't explain, his brother, freshly 18 and ready to live his life, had left without an explanation in the middle of the night. Before that, it had been the two of them against the world, Wilbur always too busy with friends to join them and Tommy still years off from being born, and suddenly, it was just him, even as a child it had hurt.

Their father had never been the same again, he believed, or at least deeply wanted to believe, that Grian was taken, that he wouldn't leave, that the stifling pressure of being the oldest son of the Minecraft family didn't have anything to do with it. He spent years searching for him, leaving for weeks at a time, and spending his time at home charting maps. Even after he brought Tommy home, he was always busy.

Before he knew it, he had left too.

Wilbur had always believed their father's words, to some extent. Mainly he saw, their oldest brother leaving as some sort of challenge, like an invitation to go looking for him.

He left before he even turned sixteen.

Personally, Techno thought it was absolute bullshit. Grian had left, and that was that. He didn't have time to believe in made up stories, he had a toddler to feed. He tended the fields with the same determination he did everything with, potatoes and bread might not be the healthiest of meals, but as winter approached he couldn't afford to kill any of their sheep, their wool would certainly be essential to survive after all. (He tried not to think how it was Grian, who taught him how to farm).

Despite the resentment he held for his oldest brother, the tales of the stars were something he held very close to his heart, a relique of sunnier days, and a comfort on the darkest of nights. It was one of the few things Tommy focused on, a calm in the tornado that was his brother's personality.

As he passed on the stories, he couldn't avoid the thought that maybe, he was doomed to leave too.

hi. your fic, The Ones Left Behind.. what do you mean by "mention of noncon"? And blood drinking?

Hi :D

“Mention of non-con” are a few paragraphs in two chapters where Loki remembers the Grandmaster’s behaviour on Sakaar and that he liked to touch Loki, and threatend him to stay with him. Loki never liked or really gave his consent to that, but let it happen until he could slip away. It doesn’t go any further than that but I was asked to put that tag up for triggering reasons. The two chapters where this happens, have a warning in the notes as well :)

The blood drinking happens at the end of Year 4, where Loki lets Tony drink his blood to make him stronger/grant him a longer life. That’s based on one of the myths on Ichor, the blood of gods. This act is consensual, and has been discussed by both.

NGL the Boarding School plot actually interest me. I could maybe see myself watching The Originals again if this is something they’ll do. I’ve always been a fan of the “magical/supernatural school” genre (Harry Potter, Vampire Academy, Miss Peregrine's Home For Peculiar Children, etc.) There is a lot of potential for this if the writers do it right.

And Caroline being a vampire headmistress of a magical boarding school? That’s cool as shit. Right now the Klaroline reunion aspect of the whole thing isn’t even the best part. IMO there’s a whole spin-offs worth of material in this idea (although it’s not like TVD needs another spin-off).
